I have a late model 1970 John Deere 3020 gas. Im installing the Pertronix electronic ignition and need to remove or bypass the ballast resistor. Where is this resistor located? Any advice to remove it or bypass? Thanks

I believe the resistor is built into the wiring harness. Just run a wire from the ignition switch to the coil/pertronix unit.

Yes, I replaced the original 6 volt coil with a 12 volt coil. The resistor limits voltage to coil to 6 volts with key in "run" position but sends 12 volts to coil when "cranking". I want 12 volts all the time.

If I rember right from when we were having problems with dad's 3020 the resistor is under the dash. Thinking you could find it and remove its wires then hook them together.

JT has it right. They used a resistance wire in the harness on 3020/4020. Run a new wire from the switch to the coil. Also, be sure to install graphite plug wires with that system. Metallic wires will damage the module. 3010/4010 had a resistor built into the key switch.
