Ford 4600 was delivered today

The shipper(Used uship) was great. Delivered when he said, and was done right for a reasonable price. The tractor seems like it was worth the money, but I haven't had time to go thru with a fine tooth comb(delivered today and I'm at work). The seller didn't tell me everything. Lights don't work. I hope it's not to much to get them going, as I really need the headlights. Front axle has been welded on both sides. The left side looks like it might have been broke at sometime and from first glance the right side just appears to have been reinforced, and it appears like it was done right. I guess it's possible he thought it was factory and or just never paid any attention to it. Probably the biggest issue though is one of the rear rims has some rot around the valve stem. I'm assuming these rims are no longer available or if they are, are outrageously expensive. Might have to into patching it. Paints is a little rougher than I thought, but the sheet metal is still straight so that's not a big deal. Everything else seems good at first look. Hope it is. The main problem I don't know whether to be glad nothing else is wrong and just be happy or if I should be ticked off that he didn't tell me about what was wrong.

All of us have seen a lot worse. Not that bad looking and you can always pick up a used axle form a strip yard. I don't know but that might be factory or someone did a real nice job on the one side. Head lights could be as simple as blown bulbs or a cut wire. Others have taken the tire off drill a new stem valve hole in another place and then weld a patch into the old hole. Looks pretty good to start with and all you need is a few gallons of BLUE paint. Go get her!

Not to bad. There is a fuse also for the lights. Is it
me or is the back rest of the seat upside down, I
think mine is on the other way? Some paint and well
look great.

That is one of the handiest tractors ever built IMO. I've got a 4630 that is basically the same tractor just a little newer. It's the tractor that gets used every day, I've put over 5000 hours on it and have never touched the engine or transmission. I have put a clutch in it and because of me, I broke the IPTO shaft. There are a lot of places that carry after market parts as well as NH. It's good that you have the weight on the wheels as they are a little light in the back end. I've abused mine with a front loader and I can't imagine how they broke the front axle but it looks like a good repair. Congrats

I think you'll like it. I sure like mine.
Besides checking the fuse for the lights, check to make sure they have a good ground. Those fender mounted lights are nice as far as throwing light where needed, but they are a paint to keep working. We ended up running a ground wire from the fenders to a bolt on the transmission.
The power adjust rims are still available, but are something like $600 each. I've patched worse than what that one looks to be.
I've seen lots of broken and welded up front axles. The reason is often that the proper bushings weren't used under the nuts on the front of the axle. Most came with a simple flat washer, unless they were prepped for loader work. Instead of a flat washer, they should have a bushing that is a TIGHT fit in the hole in the front of the axle, and that brings the base of the nut flush with the face of the axle. That spreads the extra weight to both sides of the axle tube.

Lights don't work a couple welds on the front end?Sounds like you might have bought a used 30 year old tractor not a new one.If you saw pictures of it before you
bought you could see its been rode hard and put up wet a few times. If you paid top $$$$ not so good if you got a real good price looks like a good deal.

$6620 delivered to my door. I'm satisfied with it. It runs well. And it's
not that I think a 35 year old tractor should t have an issue or two. I
was just very precise in the questions that I asked and was told
everything was In working order and that there was nothing wrong
with the tractor.

I'm going to call the guy tomorrow and thank him. I probably am nitpicking a little. The loader is probably worth $2500 or so.

Casey......FYI
Just bought the same rim 14x38, 6 rail, 5 holes in the rail, the only used one I found in Pa. was 350 + tax and 5 hrs away, miller tire wanted $395/ $153 shipping, got it from my local tire dealer for $447, no tax. so I saved by getting it from my local dealer. My rim showed the same rust out around the bead flange as your does in the last picture below the valve stem, with the cost of changing loaded/tire it wasn't worth cost or the effort to simply move the valve stem to a new location.

There are a lot of 4600 series tractors here in Florida and when you see one for sale it brings top dollar With a little TLC that one will be a nice one

I posted this before, I worked with this tractor from
1989 until about 2012 or so, it was a great tractor.
Your probably ok, but check the positive battery
cable, make sure it's covered and not rubbing on
the hood, ours caught fire, I wasent at the farm at
the time, but lucky the owners put the fire out, all it
needed was new paint and decals.
