Standardized part numbers!!

Bought a bearing form JohnDeere a while back. Packaged in a fancy JohnDeere box and wrapping paper. Inside was a Fafnir made in China bearing.Went to NAPA and got the same Fafnir bearing in a 'generic' NAPA box.About 1/3 the price. Grrrr.

In 1980 I went to work for a auto/ind./ag parts house. One day the owner/boss said the reason they sold BCA bearings is they were American made. I walked out to the bearing shelves and grabbed 4 or 5 bearings, some the same part #. You guessed it. Made in Japan, India, China and USA. Saw some others from Poland. He hadn't stocked shelves in a LOOONG time.

Just be glad there are companies in China and elsewhere that are interested in making parts for older tractors as the US companies that built them don't want to do it
or if they did they'd charge a fortune.

It took agco two try's and a 300 mile round trip for em to get the part but at least it was USA made. Bought bearings for my round baler cnh fiat industrial wrapper made in China went to John Deere and got the same bearing for half the price through there All makes parts deal you can look up bearings and seals and belts buy spec if you can navigate the website

That is why when I buy bearings, I always buy old stock bearings off from EBay, but I always make sure they send me an actual picture of the back of the bearing. If it doesn't say USA, I don't buy it. I also feel that the older the bearing is, the more likely it is USA made. Bought 2 front main bearings for my F20, brand new SKF, USA made, for $.50, with $6 shipping. Probably $125 or more of bearings if I had to go to the parts store and buy them. Bought the rear F20 main bearing, SKF, USA made, new, old stock, for $35 with free shipping, a $150 bearing. Crappy looking boxes usually, but who cares as long as the bearing is still in its wrapper?
