Bubbas Boys

New User
Grandpa decided to take apart a cub hi boy. It would not move and he thought clutch was bad. Broke it apart and replaced. Still would not engage transmission. Broke apart again and now he is thinking main transmission shaft is not turnng with the gears in box. Took shaft out and looks like the teeth are not there inside of bushing with the bearings In it. Looking for advise if his makes since at all. Will attach some pics of shaft, bushing, and box. Thanks for any help.

OH dang. That is one busted drive shaft. Had to wonder what a CUB hi boy was. That is just a standard CUB. The CUB lowboy is about six inches lower and very in demand. Least as far as I know. I have a CUB myself.

Not sure which model of cub you have. Number series 154/or regular cub. But the shaft looks broken to me. Dave F.

Yeah sorry for confusion on what it is called. So tou
are saying the shaft is suppose to be connected to
the end of the shaft coming out of the housing. I
didnt really ask in post but we dont know what is
wrong. Dont have any idea what I is suppose to look
like. Haha.

he drive shaft runs from the flywheel back to and into the transmission to about where the transmission fill plug is. There it mates with the PTO shaft if you have one. The PTO turns in the same direction and speed as the engine. Your drive shaft is definitely broken and in an unusual spot. When you put it back together make sure the retainer on the front of the transmission is installed facing the correct way. It will go either way. Also clean out the oil gutters and drip holes over the front and rear bearings.

Shaft snapped clean off. That's the broken end in the second picture. jeffcat, I was in an IH dealer years ago and saw a brand new 154 Hi-Crop. 42" wheels and extended spindles.
