Cattle thief in TX gets 30 years. He was convicted of 2 first degree felony cattle theft charges in Colemn county, TX. Officers recovered not only livestock, but also trailers, guns, and farming equipment.

Article(in Progressive Farmer, April) didn't mention where else he had been. It did mention his name, Clinton Easter.

Back in the days of Paul Harvey Commentary, even he admitted that when they hung horse thieves, there were very few repeat offenders!

I was watching a show on tv in Canada they were ready to hang a kid that was if I remember correctly 14 for murder. Fortunately they didn't because 40 some years later he was able to prove not only that he didn't do it but the evidence the cops had wasn't correct. But if is proven beyond a shadow of doubt then find a good punishment. It's to bad they don't have prison farm's let them earn there keep at least. The sad thing is there getting better health care then the average person.

The company I work for has a deer camp in Coleman. They have had a lot of problems with thieves! Stolen campers, 4 wheelers, break-ins...

The Coleman Co sherifs dept is serious about solving crimes, most of the stuff has been recovered. Not sure if any arrests were made, my guess it's crack heads looking to make a buck.

I have heard that hanging was still on the books as law now i dont know if thats true or not but i bet if they did that to a couple criminals and word get around maybe some folks would think twice before stealing

I Agree ,
William Allen Dodd, Was hung in are State. WA. For a different thing.
Livestock rustling is still A hanging offence in this State!
It is up to the Jam Tarts that prosecute and convict them.

Texas does have a prison farm, as does Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and probably several more Southern and mid-western States, the problem is the federal courts got involved in the early 1980's and ruled against most of the mandatory work requirements in place at the time. Angola, the Louisiana state pen, was wholely self sufficient and even turned a profit as recently as 1983.

Lot's of cousins there, All Agree Get rid of the Jam Tarts!!

NY closed down its prison farms a few years ago, said it was not cost effective. I say put them to work what is wrong with chain gangs, if you do the crime you should lose the right to freedom and some other rights also.

I checked. Not the same guy,but our guy was operating in four counties. Plus we had three punk idiots running around shooting livestock and tractors.

(quoted from post at 00:27:23 04/06/16) And hanging is a lot cheaper then paying for his room and board for the next 30 years.

According to what I've seen it's cheaper for the state to keep him for life due to the appeals to a death sentence that the state has to pay for. As you go higher in the process the cost goes up.

Chain gangs, prison farms, heck I wouldn't be against putting treadmills in their cells that generate electricity. Make them pay for their room and board. Make it so they are afraid to go back to jail.

Just need some common sense applied to process. The death penalty is a massive money maker for the lawyers involved with the taxpayer picking up the tab on both sides.
