Allen, S/W of you 40 miles I actually disked my stubble on March 14th. Ground worked up good and I made a good kill on the volunteer. Didn't really want to disk that early but it was getting green so I figured what the Heck. This week looks good except for the wind. Later

Getting sleet this morning. Ground is trying to dry out, but a tad sticky underneath.and too cool for any real work.

Just don't see disks used in spring any more here, all field cultivators. We finally figured out in the 1970s that disks and clayish soils = Adobe brick instead of soil. I know its different and works well there.

In our section of upstate NY, we will typically moldboard plow, disc, and finish with a spring tooth harrow before planting. It works well for us! Haven't started any of this yet.

Its been 10 F here the last few days. Ground is rock hard again, it had only thawed a couple of inches before the cold snap.

Not fit at my house. We sunk the tractor and finisher yesterday and the grain drill today trying to finish the last of the oats. Most was very good except the two wet spots and I knew better but still had to try.LOL Tom

Been going off and on here for several weeks. We get light rains that stop us for a couple of days then go again. A lot of the seeps in the hills have quit running. I believe most of the fertilizer is on around here and most of the fieldwork that's going to be done is. I think everyone is waiting for warmer weather to start planting corn soil temps won't stay above 50 more than a couple of days. We're hauling grain this week.

SE of you when I was farming we tried to disk Mid March to try and get a kill on the goat grass in the wheat. Do you have that problem up there? I would put those wings down and be ready, you might have a small window to get it done. LOL

I talked to a guy today that has a 1000 ac of corn in the ground. We are dry, and I had to scrape frost off of the windshield this morning.

How about soil temperature.? I thought that our frost was gone, but Monday we got three inches of snow, and the ground is frozen again.
