Well, I mentioned last week I was headed to the Waverly, Ia Draft Horse Sale this week. Didn't get to meet up with any YT'ers but did find a pair of 5 and 6 year old dapple greys I couldn't live without. Luckily the Wife wanted them just as bad as they didn't come cheap. But man what an ideal pair to own. 17-2 hands tall and weighing about 1900 lbs each.

Amish owned and raised. Will pull a plow, spreader, people, you name it Dead Broke. Can't wait to get them home and drive them. Headed back to Ks in the morning. Bob

NICE!!!

Husband and I went to Waverly some years ago with the thought of buying a team... the cost changed our minds. It was a lot of fun though.

The horses are Percherons. That is all I have ever owned for Drafts. I bought the harness with them as well so I still have enough for all the boys if I decide to hook them all together.

They are very quiet and absolutely broke. Yesterday I was riding in the buggy hooked to them when the trash truck backed up to empty the dumpster. The truck had a backup alarm blaring and was banging and clanging. The young Amish man drove them right beside the trash truck and neither he or the horses paid it any attention. I knew then how good they were.

I also had my eye on a beautiful team of Belgians, but they sold first and I held out for these. Headed to the farm in the am. Bob

my uncle Harry and Lee would have been jealous my dad would have said they are nice but you have to feed them all winter, I just would have hated polishing the harness. My uncles and dad were horsemen grew up with around 50 all the time and even after the tractors my uncles kept 10 to 20 my dad and I kept 4 riders and a team of mules. Btw, they are good looking matched team, one question will they work lead and aft or are they set on the side they work.

I assume you will haul them both in the same trailer. Neighbor had a auction and sold a team of draft horses that went to separate owners. Sad to hear the horses being separated......lots of whinnying and stomping as the team was split up. Felt so sorry for the beautiful horses on being separated.....leaves a lasting impression on the companionship of the big animals.

Yep. I couldn't do that to a team that has been together all their lives. I know they get over it but has to be hard on them. Bob

They have been side to side up to now any way. The owner told me they had been in the middle of a 4 a breast. He had pics of them plowing and spreading manure.

I'll get them home tomorrow and keep them separate from the ones I already have for a few days and then turn them out with the others in the pasture. They should be fine. Bob

My dad had a team when I was just a little kid. I've never paid any attention to horses but that's a beautiful team you got. Maybe my attitude on horses started when my x wife talked me into a year old 1/4 horse shortly after we got married. We lived on the edge of town and had a small barn and pasture rented for the horse. First day she got it it went through the fence, tore it's chest up pretty bad, took a bunch of stitches and then it lived in my garage until it healed up while my car and snowmobile lived out in the elements.

Can't beat a Percheron. My kids and wife ride and I am bigger my dad raised Percherons when I was a kid so naturally that's what I got for a trail horse.. Here is a picture of me and Dickey. I'd trust a draft horse over a pony any day of the week.

I agree. Ponies can be very temperamental and unpredictable. We used to raise Arabians but now only have miniatures.

Looks like you are as bad off as I am..lol. They make a good riding horse and these two were also giving rides on this Amish produce farm. They are actually pretty sure footed. Thanks for the pics as well. Bob

I can see why you fell in love with this team. What an incredible pair of animals!
Hope you get lots of time together.

Larry

Beautiful horses! My Grandpa, near Jansen Nebraska, always had draft horses. I remember Belgians, Percherons, Strawberry Roans. One summer, the Beatrice paper did an article about him. He had a 6 horse hitch in the field for the photoshoot!

That team run my fever up! If, if, if I was younger without health problems I would have a large team. My little team will have to do.

They look like the pair pictured in a Waterloo Courier tonight's paper article on the sale. A little hard to be sure as the picture is from the front with the ring man blocking part of the near side horse. Also the picture is in black and white.
