pump type and setup

I have two 1500 gal water tanks to catch rain water off the roof. What kind of pump setup will I need to provide adequate water pressure in the house. The house is 1300 sq ft, 1 bath. Thanks for the help.

A shallow well jet pump with a air bladder will pump and provide pressure. But unless you provide some kind of filtration and chlorination that water is not potable. It has picked up all sorts of contaminates on the roofs, gutters and collection system. These contaminates will also "grow' in your storage tanks. You probably are aware of these things, but just thought I would alert you if you did not. gobble

i have a 1000 gallon water tank on a trailer. i bought a shallow water jet pump from rural king, about 200 bucks with a small pressure tank. its 110 volt and i have a small generator on the trailer. work s really good. use a check valve on the inlet side of the jet pump.

heres a picture of my water rig. i used a sprayer strainer on the inlet side and if you want you can rig a whole house filter on the outlet side to remove any sediment.

I use gutters to collect rain water for garden and animals, this year have had a bad time with mosquito larve. I just add a little bleach.

I second Tom's point. Even bathing or a shower can be a point of infection. From bird droppings to bacteria in the gutter debris, it is nasty. Jim

Father in law grew up in a place with bad ground water so they and everyone had rainwater collection with a huge cistern in the basement. It was built in the 1940s and 12 off them drank it until they moved out. They dumped a jug of bleach in once or twice a year.

I stayed at the house after it had been empty a few years, the fill spout was unhooked but the tank was still half full. We fixed the little piston pump so we could use the toilet. Not thinking I brushed my teeth with the tap water. Next day we were down in the basement curious about the water level when I spotted the dead rats floating in the water. Never got sick luckily but it was a stomach churning sight.

I'm glad somebody said it! I was reading that and thinking of all the bird stuff, bugs and debris in that water and wondering who in their right mind would even shower in it. Especially after it got a chance to incubate in a petri dish of a tank.

I lived in a house that relied on raw lake water. The city used water from the lake, but it was treated.

The lake was one of the nastiest around. Shallow, muddy, lots of grandfathered septic systems, industrial waste from General Dynamics, Carswel AFB, others.

I didn't drink it, but bathed in it. I got sick with a cold that would not go away! Lived there about a year, as soon as I moved I got well. Coincidence?

i grew up in a farm house that had both well water and a cistern for soft water. cistern was hooked to the rain gutters. wash water, bath and laundry was cistern water, never had a problem. drinking water was from the well. in a lot of the Caribbean islands, they collect rainwater for drinking water as there is no fresh water on the islands. some have de-salinators, but they are spendy to run.
