Don't trust the weather man

Last year I took a trip up north. I saw hundreds of acres of dried oat hay fields. Just no rain. So this year all we were hearing, was expect a lot of rain. sand bags were selling by the thousands. We had one good rain, and that was about it. last week I saw the same hundreds of acres. A good stand of oat hay, but some of it was already starting to turn brown. Looked to be only 6 or so inches high. I am sure the farmers listened to the weather man, and thought this was going to be a wet year. Unless we get some good rain in a few weeks these farmers are going to go bust again. This was around Perris California. Stan

2 years never seem to be the same, keeps you on your toes that way! It drizzled here yesterday on Easter Sunday, soooo does this mean it will drizzle for 7 Sundays?

Here in my part of Iowa we plant for a bumper crop every time. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't but our optimal planting window of time is fairly narrow and if that seed is planted after the window closes the chance for a good crop drops way down. We have pretty much the same expense in the crop whether we plant within the window or after the window has closed and a lower yield means less money in the bank to pay the expenses.
Come to think of it, the northern row crop farmers are trying to beat the fall frost but the southern farmers are trying to beat the summer heat. Quite a difference!
