This is my friends saw mill,His name is Alvia McNeal,he bought this mill 50 years ago and has moved it several times,He is cutting boards for his son to build him a horse barn.I hope yoy enjoy these pictures,also the Case LA does a good job,Alvia is also a tractor collector

Thanks for the pictures. That looks like a WHOLE lot of work and expertise.

How does he get the logs up onto the sawmill? Front end loader? Fork lift? Ramps?

Looks like he's sawed a lot of lumber in the past, by the looks of the slab pile. I wonder how long it takes to make compost from sawdust; maybe it needs to be mixed with something with more moisture?

I ran mine for many years with an LAE Case power unit. Pulled it very well. Used several tractors before that. 88 Oliver, Massey Harris 101 SR, M Farmall.

Anyone who's never seen a mill like this in operation owe's it to themself to dirve 100 miles if nessary. Anyone ever watched an operator "ride the sled"? If that doesn't pucker your sack,it's lost circulation.

We use sawdust for mulch after it has been aged outdoors in a pile for a year. I just have a band mill so it makes less sawdust than a circle mill but it is a little easier for one person to run it alone.

I tell every one my mill is my GOLF. When one is sawing you do not need a cell phone ringing or a lot of other distractions. I am on my 4th wood-mizer and my will probably be the last thing I let go.

If by operator you mean the sawyer, I don't see how he could pull the stick while he "rode the sled". On some of the big old mills the setters rode on the carriage.
