Your lawnmower piston jab on the duramax got me wondering, so I Googled it.....

Cummins 5.9 bore is 4.02"

Duramax is 4.06"

Now, if you had a 6.7, it's 4.21". A whopping .15" larger.

Maybe my gargantuan hand just made it look tiny....

By the way, I have one of those trucks with the small-piston diesels in it too....

I have honestly thought about giving a Duramax a whirl but the injectors and pump scare me ; bad . My buddy just put .7000.00 bucks into his for an injector job another 2400.00 for a transfer case another buddy just had to do the same thing on his transfer case , a dodge you'll be doing trany work on sooner or latter if you tow like which is about 10,000 over max factory rated spec so I can't hold the transfer case against the gm

I've got the Duramax in my dually - I think it's an '04. What a wreck. The thing is super sensitive to water, it clatters more than it should, and it's left me on more than one occasion because of some sensor. It's had 117,000 fairly easy miles (although always with a trailer) and I still don't trust it. A friend has one and spent a boat load of $ on injector work. If I had about 75 grand laying around the thing would go to scrap.

The gears in the Chevy transfer case ride against the aluminum or magnesium (whichever it is) housing. No wear plate or thrust bearing of any sort. The aftermarket has kits to prevent wear-through.

The Aisin has solved most dodge transmission problems.

The biggest problem with the Isuzu diesel is it's a light duty engine putting out numbers that were pretty good for a heavy duty large-bore engine 30 years ago.

So far there just used mainly in Gen sets and locomotives. I started out on b and c series and now on the qsk95 and makes those look so small!
