Sending a monitor out for repair

Just fired an email off to Ag Express about sending them my monitor for repair. It is operational, just not 100% correctly. Anyone do this? I was wondering ballpark what it might cost? Seller had indicated he would cover repairs if the unit did not work, but I think I should get a rough idea on cost before I commit. Not going to hold anyone to a number, just what did it run you. JD model 100 planter monitor.

We sent out an international cyclometer 2 that didn't work at all to Ag express 3 years ago think it cost us around $600 to make it right again.

Have you installed it on your planter and tried it yet? Why send it off if it is operational? Your last post about the light bulbs sounded as if you didn't know how it is supposed to work. Did you read the manual?

Well, you tell me. Do you know how it works? I see nothing in the operators manual about what lights will operate when the switch is moved. Seems logical that if moving the switch from "8" to "4" makes the 7 & 8 sockets go out then it should also make the 1 & 2 sockets go out...but that is not what is happening. The tech manual might help with this, but I do not have that one. I think I have reason to be concerned about whether or not this monitor is working correctly. Also, I do not see how putting it on the planter is going to help. I read nothing about a diagnostic in the manual that I can run on the planter. If you know of one, please tell me. The seller of this monitor stated in an email it did not work so he took it into the JD dealer and had it "refurbished", $55 charge. Seems like it should work.

Dave you actually need to hook it to the planter to check and see if the seed tube sensors are working/powered. You can look down the seed tube and see the eye light up. Just powering up the monitor on the bench really tells you about half the potential trouble. You still have the planter half of the harness and all the seed tube sensor that could be not working.

Dave on your monitor the lights will light at start up and sound the alarm. Once the planter starts to drop the lights will either go out or blink. A solid light is failed row and should sound the alarm.

OK on that. Nothing happens with it just powered up except lights coming on, so I will have to find time to take it out to the farm and hook it up. I'll hook it to a battery and see what happens. That is likely to be 2-3 weeks in the happening now as I am pretty well booked up thru the end of tax season. Much to my surprise, they work on Easter at Ag Express. Just got an email from them. They think the monitor MIGHT be OK. No one seems to be 100% sure how it should react to just being powered up with no planter. They gave me a quote on repairs if needed. I guess I will just say that if it is broke, it is going to stay broke. I have a contact out to a big JD dealer in the area to see can they get me a good working unit or at least test this one for a more reasonable price. This stuff adds up in a hurry.

John Deere printed a separate book for the monitor. I think you better get one. The lights go out when it is planting. It should have a test switch to check the bulbs, mine does.

Took a Monitor from a 6 row John Deere 7000 to my local Dealer 2 years ago. I believe they charged me $28 dollars to verify that if was working good.
