Wound up using two dog crates, I think I will build a slide in box tho. I got two 70 lbs barrows and four 35 lb Yorks, I figured they would fight but the big ones can't catch the little ones! I caught em all sleeping together!

Nice little bunch of pigs . I use to raise a few but no place to market then within a hundred miles so I quit

I sold 15 for butcher hogs last year, I will feed 24 this year. Lots more people want to buy meat directly off the farm these days.

Ya I think now days a guy could probably sell to the greenies and anti people that Are actually trying to farm for a living people . for some reason if your farming or ranching for a living your evil

Not so much here, in Illinois, farming is kinda the way. I do understand that in other parts commercial agriculture is looked down on for some reason. I ran into this when talking to a couple guys on another forum, one from Georgia and another from Oregon. No mater what you say to defend yourself or enlighten them you will always be the bad guy cause you farm. Farming is 50% of my income, I make the rest doing carpentry. I wouldn't change it no mater what anyone thinks.

Ben70b,

If I may ask, what are you charging for sales off the farm.

I ended up charging .95 cents per lb live weight and after all the costs were calculated, ended up almost breaking even. I bought my pigs for $65 each and grew them to 250lbs on custom feed from a local elevator. Feed was much cheaper than the farm store swine feed and the pigs gained better on it this year. However, I just can't seem to get to a point where it is worthwhile to go this way, long term. I can make much better money on selling farm raised beef.

Makes me sick the way people that couldn't tell you the a** end of that hog from the front a cow think they know so much about farming 😡😡😡 if they don't like the food let em go hungry

I get a buck a pound on the hoof, you shoul be able to get three barrows to 300 lbs on a ton of ground 16%. Definatly better money in cattle bit
if you do the math you can make a few buck with the hogs
