My Dads Passing

I have been a long time user of the information on these boards but have not posted much. I felt that I should pass this on to those of you that might have known my Dad. He was mainly a Ferguson and John Deere collector but pretty much all the colors were represented in his collection so he was not entirely colorblind and the information that other collectors posted on these boards have been invaluable to both of us over the years. My Dad Lee Folkerts passed away Saturday Evening March 19, 2016 and was laid to rest Thursday March 24. He was 78 years old and although retired was a farmer to the end. We will miss him greatly but as a good friend of mine who also lost his father recently has said both of our dads are probably on a tractor ride in heaven right now. Thank You all who have already sent your condolences and to everybody on all these forums that have posted with helpful information when we ran into a snag on our many restoration projects over the years.

My sympathy to you and your family.

I still talk to my dad when I am with his tractors, know he is listening.

Sorry to hear that Bob, I really am. Hope your family is coping as best as possible.

I just got back from the farm. Spent most of the day in the farm shop tinkering with stuff my dad and I use to tinker on together.

Very comforting to be there in the shop, messing with the same tools and equipment that he used. Very seldom does a day not go by that I dont see something that he had welded, adapted, fixed, broke or messed with. Every weld or repair has a story and a memory.

Take care, Gene

I think of my dad almost every time I weld or use one of his tools. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to work in the antique tractor shop that Jesus has! I bet he likes all colors too. Savor your memories!

Bob - Sorry to hear of your father passing. If I have the story correct, your father was about ten years older then my wife, but your uncle, Max, was a year behind her in school. We still have two farms around Allison and get there often during the warmer weather. My father passed away over 29 years ago and I still miss him and think of him most days. Take care.

My condolences offered to you and your family. I have been there and know the void that you are facing.

I got to visit with both Max and Lee in Indianola at the Fergy get together, and saw them at the Duffers visit at the farm a little while back. Always a good time. It really surprised me to hear the news of Lee's passing. You have my deepest sympathy.

My condolences to you and your family. Maybe this poem is fitting to your Father, it was part of my Dad's service in 2000. I had never seen it before but still am moved when reading it thinking of my Dad, Anton Welk. I hope it's OK to share this for all of our Dad's that have gone ahead of us.

Final Harvest
He was bound to the land from the day of his birth
His roots anchored deep in the fertile earth
Nurtured, sustained by the soil he grew
His life like his furrows ran straight and true.
In faith each spring he planted the seeds
In hope, to reap his family's needs
With patience, he waited for the harvest to come
To gather the fruits of his labor home.
Ever turning seasons, the years sped past
Till the final harvest came at last
Then claimed anew by beloved sod
He was gathered home to be with God.

Bob, I can't say that I knew your father, and now it doesn't matter. What does matter is that he Rests In Peace, that he always watches over you and your family, and that you forever keep him in your heart. My condolences.

sorry to hear about your dad, when my grandpa passed away it was really sad to see his orchard behind his house. If he was still around you knew that where he would be.

My best wishes to you and your family in getting over a loss like that.

very nice tribute to our farmer DADS,so sorry toyou and your family Bob in IOWA ,..I was asked to do my dads eulogy in august 2008,,.you can find it in Your Stories as "Eulogy For DAD" ...God gave it to me the midnite hour before Dads funeral,,. it literally rolled down from Heaven and all I could do was type as fast as I could ,and spent another hour fixing typos and admiring it,,.to me it is a classic , that I often go to when I want to think of my illustrious father ,.. he sure was a Dandy that will never be forgotten ...and he lives on inside all of us ..

My condolences Bob. Every time you pick up a tool of his that will be a strong bond as I know it is with me. God Bless.

Very sorry to read this, we hope our parents will live forever, but it is not his will, your pain of his loss will be replaced with time of the fond times you had in life together. I miss my Dad every day, and often find myself asking what would he do in this situation even 24 years after loosing him. God Bless your family

I am new to this forum but you have my condolences. My dad and mom are long gone and I am fast approaching old age (if not there already) and find that while time does not heal wounds it does help to soften them. Dads like yours appears to have been are invaluable in helping us grow up to be the kind of people we need to be so our kids can have fond memories of us. God bless you and yours.
