ok , I'm putting KINZE brush meters in my planter. how do I now set the population? will the sprocket settings be the same for lbs/ seeds per acre? or where do I find a chart to getting the desired lbs/seeds per acre with these meters as compared to the standard bean cups?

The corn meters are 12 finger.

The Kinze with the normal bean meter are 60 slots.

So, use the corn chart x 5.

so what ever my corn population is, times it by 5 , on the sprocket combo that would be the bean population. correct? setting for corn pop. of 28000 would be population of 140,000 then

I got the chart with my meters, but if you google the info, you"ll end up with what paul says...It"s not lbs per acre-it"s seeds per acre. Bean cups deal with volume, and seeds per acre varies greatly, depending on seeds per lb of the bean you plant. Meters are fantastic- they singulate seeds to give accurate count of seeds per acre...change varieties, and keep the same seeding rate. Nice when you buy beans from 2400 seeds/lb to 3200 seeds/lb! Set it once, and forget it.

that's what im going for, seeds per acre , last year , seeds varied in size so much , could nt get planter set at all , seemed like they just "ran thru"

Do you have the operator's manual for that planter? If not, you are "flying blind". There are several sites that you can order a manual.

The manual should show you the various sprocket settings you will need to make to enable you to plant the seed population you want

Corn is planted based on seeds per acre, not pounds per acre.

Make sure the brushes are like new....they are cheap to buy and use only one screw to hold them in place. Worn brushes often cause too many "doubles and triples", and that leads to you buying more seed corn.

Get the manual. You need it.

I have all that , just trying to get the KINZE meters set, manual has nothing on that, its very accurate on corn , the beans , with the bean cups , not so much.

Do you have a monitor? If so just go by it and adjust accordingly. I have a KP2 on my splitter and it is real accurate.

rkc,

I am missing something here.....there is no "setting" on a Kinze finger meter. Precision Planting has an adjustable brush setting, but not Kinze or JD. The meters will do the singulation of seed, the population per acre is determined by sprocket settings...the driven sprocket vs the driver sprocket.

Hope this helps,
