Didn't want to hijack post below on dealer part prices
Last fall I bought a Huqvarna 455 rancher with 20 in bar from my local farm supply here in Ont Canada
Price then was 489.99 plus sales tax which up here is 13%
A tractor dealer about 50 miles from me has the same saw listed in their products for $539.89

so to my point
A lot of people both in person ad on forums tells me how great online sales are and that I'll sav? lots using those services like them

One that I've been told to use is Amazon as the deals there are unbelievable

so I finally decided to look

The same saw on there is twice the price than I can buy locally and have today instead of waiting at least 2 day's for delivery so how is this better

btw the price online in Can $1095.00 plus 5.54 shipping
also says there is an other option for $916.00 see the link

My point is don't believe that things online are always cheaper you still have to shop around

Don't get me wrong they do have some deals at Amazon I saw that are better priced than what's available locally

But for me when possible I'll support my local store before online when ever possible there's too many times I need things now and if they all close up then all I'll have is online options

I know that my local places cann't stock everything and I can accept that but what they don't have most things thy can have next day and that still beats 2 or more days waiting for delivery.
sticker shock

I've seen plenty of bizarre pricing on ebay . Common things like a $40 gas tank for a Cub Cadet for $199, $7 oil filters @ $59....I think they are just trolling for a sucker.

i have no idea what you were looking at but i find them from 369.00 with 20 inch bar. cheapest on amazon was 400 this is US pricing

Well as I stated I live in Canada
What I'm looking at is the Canadian Amazon that I provided with the link but those in the U.S. might not be able to view it
My point that even you confirmed is online isn't always cheaper
Unless you prefer to pay your amazon price of 400 instead of 369 else where
In Canada where our dollar is only worth 70 cents to a U.S. dollar
my price here of 489 isn't to bad with the exchange rate
But the amazon price here is in the 1 g mark is not a bargin

I agree there are those that are just trolling for a sucker.
But thats the best price on amazon ca today the other prices go up from that for that chainsaw.
I picked on that unit as I personally have bought one in the last 6 months and reconfirmed today's price at both my farm supply and a tractor dealer reasonably close to me that carries the same line
to get their pricing.

My point still is that online shopping isn't always cheaper you need to know what your local pricing is before buying. And if everyone is supporting online vs local how long before your local guy closes and you have no choice but to go online.

It took me a while, but I have learned to arrange my life in such a manner that I have no need for a chainsaw.

Saves money and reduces the chance of a severe injury by quite a bit.

Do you burn a lot of wood, or just need a cs to clean things up a bit?

I wish
We heat with wood
As well as I cut and bag for campgrounds
as well as property cleaning
I'm not looking for a chain saw have at least 6 of them
I was doing some price comparing with things many more than just chain saws and found lots of things more costly on line than buying locally
the chainsaw was an extreme price difference to show just how lopsided some things can get
buyer beware

No such thing as 'Always' you gotta shop around for prices and availability on almost
everything these days if you want to find the best deals. What is good about online shopping is it only takes a few minutes and also factor in that when buying online
you're not burning up gas or your time to go and pick up the product.

Many times when you figure in shipping, on line shopping is not cheaper. Sometimes if we are not knowledgeable about what we are buying we are shooting ourselves in the foot by buying online. I'm not knocking online shopping, last week I ordered $4300 worth of planter and field cultivator parts online with my smartphone. The boxes showed up the next day.

Amazon is rarely the cheapest place to get stuff. What Amazon is is a central clearing house that offers almost EVERYTHING. I tend to go to Amazon to peruse the selection of a given item I'm not already familiar with-parts and attachments for my wifes Kitchenaid mixer was the recent example. Then when I find what I'm looking for, and the PART#!!!!, I can start comparison shopping. Ebay is often the cheapest place even after shipping. Living where I do, with very limited shopping choices, it works very well for me. But yes, you have to be smart enough to look around and compare.

Things that are heavy, hazardous and not high volume are generally not cheaper online. I do find many good prices on amazon shipped to my door. The fact that I don't have to waste time chasing to town saves me time and therefore money even if I don't always get the "best price".

Ebay is cheaper on certain items but ebay comes with risk as well. Most sellers I am sure are fine to deal with but its not always worth the aggravation especially if I may need to warranty it or return for some unknown reason. A few years ago ebay used to be a great place to get used items now its more of a china goods clearing house.

Amazon.ca has very limited usefulness. If it's sold and shipped by Amazon.ca, you can normally get a pretty good deal on it. If it's sold by almost anyone else, for example, UrbanInspirations (who is one of the worst offenders), it's out of this world expensive.
