Hey Paul from klossner

Hey Paul, I was wondering about the place in Lafayette that has all
the tractors on the corner. Any of them forsale? What do you know of
the place? I drive through there sometimes coming home from
Marshall.

Thanks, Ryan.

Not Paul but know the individual who owns it. Yes the equipment there is for sale but typically on the high $ end for what it is. Guys last name is Olson, don't remember his first name. If your seriously interested I can find out.

You are right. It's Leon Olson. You are also right about being on the high end. What would you say that 806D is really worth? He is asking $6500. Seems real high.

Thanks, Ryan

My cousin Loretta is the keyboard player for Leon Olsons band. They play old thyme polka music. Her husband plays base guitar.

That's pretty cool! Where do they typically play? I grew up near you. Just down the road from Arnold's implement. I understand you are near north links right?

Thanks, Ryan.

Wow. Yes, about 500 ft. from North Links. What place did you grow up on? Co. rd. #13? I know many of the old places on #13. Cecil Gothem, Stanley and Loraine Johnson, Romie Lorentz, Friendels, Harlan Lance, Gittners, Lloyd Michels.
The Leon Olson show plays at most all the fests in New Ulm and lots of wedding dances and anniversaries. They play at regional polka gatherings throughout the midwest. I know they play once a year at some festival or competition in Omaha and several times somewhere out in Wisc. They are playing somewhere most every weekend and have quite a following. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BRbZ5cv66E

I wish I could say I grew up out on co 13. I grew up behind what is called green acres. By Walter S farm park. I joined this site when I was about 14. I am 27 now and have five tractors and 14.5 acres. Someday I'd love to farm more. I love everything old though. Believe it or not but that includes polka.

Thanks, Ryan.

I was the first one on the scene when Walter Farm got killed in a car accident on the edge of one of our fields. He was crossing hy. 14 and got broadsided. Most gruesome thing I have ever seen. Must have been 50 to 55 years ago.
So some names I know closer to your neighborhood=== Ensenhauer, Bob Chester, and who's the guy with the repair shop?

Greg.

As the others say, think he's a nice enough guy but he's on the high side on prices.

Kinda odd, same tractors sit there for 3 years, then they change out like 67%, and then that group sits there for 3 years.....

It is in Klossner, the township is Lafayette township, its a little confusing because the township built a maintenance shop across the road from him, says 'Lafayette' on it but the town is Klossner, Lafayette is the next town north.

Paul

I was very young but I remember when they burned his old house down by the park. Must have been a relation or something. The repair shop is Wilson auto. Rich Wilson I believe. That Ensenhaur, does he live off countryside in the woods kind of? A friend and I always played in his woods. If it's the same couple I seem to remember he was quite old even then.

Thanks, Ryan

I'm the weedy hilly poor farm less than a mile away from him. ;)

As often as I go through that intersection, I'm sure we've passed by each other.

Paul

Yep, we got it narrowed down now. Walt Ensenhauer. Yes, he would be a very old gentleman by now. Never heard that he died but may not live out there anymore. He did as of a couple years ago because he called me up to come look at running a little bit of crop land he has back there. I looked at it but it was only about 2 acres so not worth my running that far and then he was going to charge me some rent too. I told him I couldn't even do it rent free much less pay him anything. Did you ever know his son Ron? Him and I went to school together at Holy Rosary. He got a degree in law enforcement and went to work for the F.B.I. Made a career with them. Probably retired by now.
Good talking to you, Greg.

Do any of you guys remember the place on the road between Lafayette and Highway 111 (I think it's county road 1)? About 20 or 25 years ago there used to be several acres just east of the Bernadotte road that were full of old tractors and machinery. The owner was an old guy from Winthrop. I tried a couple times to buy stuff from him but he either wouldn't sell or he wanted way too much. I'm sure the old guy is gone now, and the place is all cleaned up. Just wondering if any of you remembered it. There was some really nice stuff in there.

Walt has some neat property. A couple dugouts are on his property or next to it. Made out of limestone. When you were there last did you happen to see if he still had a John Deere tractor sitting in his shed? Thought about going to see if he was interested in selling.

Thanks, Ryan

Are you thinking of the lot near Brownton...Hwy 15 and 7? That place was owned by Armin Rathke, and was cleaned up a few years ago. IIRC, just a little shed left now.

Rich. That story sounds familiar. I wasn't in those parts back then so I'm not sure of the place. The story you tell sounds like the gentleman who passed away about a year ago. I want to say Bob Lindquist, but I'm not sure on that name. Had quite a collection soup to nuts. I believe he had remarried and the family had little interest. If that is the place his auction was last June. Same day as Ralph Hall's.

The place I am thinking about has been cleaned up for quite a few years already. I believe the old fellow's name was George Gustafson, or something like that. He lived in Winthrop, but the property was out in the country near Bernadotte. It was mostly old tractors and machinery.

I also remember the lot by Brownton.
It's just sad to see all these places disappearing.

I used to go by both these places on my way to Hutchinson.
