ANOTHER a/c question

I sure hope this is my last post about this.

The 886 is in town with the a/c being flushed and vac'ed to switch over to the update kit. I'm going to put the kit on it and then have Ken fill her up.

The instructions with the compressor say to open the plug and drain all of the oil out of the pump before installing. It does not say whether to keep the oil or reuse it. There aren't instructions to specifically NOT reuse it. Ken wanted to know if I had oil for the unit when he charges it. He knows what oil he would use (I believe he said ester on a conversion) in it but not whether we can reuse what's in the pump now. Can I keep that and use it as the oil? It's the Sanden (sp?) unit with the upgrade package from here at YT.

New compressor has assembly/shipping oil in it. Dump it.

Since this is a converted R12 system, use POE oil, adding enough ounces to cover what is required by the compressor, with extra to circulate through the system, and to cover for the amount that is absorbed into or hangs around in the dryer.

Should be pretty close to the factory-recommended oil charge, depending upon the amount the Sanden requires vs. the York, I'll GUESS 6 - 8 Ounces.

Also, it isn't a bad idea to add a can of ICE 32.

Don't reuse it. Some instructions say to drain & measure, discard, add that amount back with type oil that suits your system. Hang in there--you gonna be cool yet--LOL

Going from R12 to R134A right? Catch and measure what's in the compressor and add that much NEW oil back in. POE is for hybrid vehicles with electric compressors. Use PAG oil. POE will be tough to find at your local auto parts store. Typical charge level is typically 60-80% of what the R12 capacity was.
