Somebody must be making money farming

Saw these 2 rigs leaving New Orleans the other day.
Most likely loaded them at the port and headed up north.
Somebody sure must be making money farming to pay for these.

It is a sight to see when the ship comes in with a load.
The ship has a fold down ramp on the back that extends to the dock when open.
They then drive hundreds of pieces of equipment out the belly of the ship one after the other onto the dock.
Dozers; excavators; combines; cranes; ect. If it is made overseas and to big to be shipped in a container this is how it comes in.

Half a million dollar unit riding on a 2 hundred thousand dollar truck and trailer. About $6 dollar a mile freight cost so yes it all adds up , but as you say if they were not selling they would not be moving.

Since it has tracks it may be going to Eastern Arkansas. Rice farmers haven't been hit as hard as some. Those guys go through combines faster than Slick Willie goes through interns. I don't see Claas equipment much though.

That machine is closer to three quarters of a million dollars, list! Unbelievable how the cost of machines has increased over the past few years when you consider corn is selling for less than $4.00 a bushel. One or two years of great prices just bailed out farmers who were scraping by. Oh we'll, that is farming!

It's heavy too, for a combine. The Lexion 580's I used to haul were 46,000 on wheels. This thing is bigger and on tracks. I'm surprised the truck doesn't have more axles. They pull HARD! Like a big sail up on the back of the truck.

All Claas combines are built in Omaha Nebraska! I just had a tour! I also know they had a big set up at a farm show recently in New Orleans!

How long can the huge dealers last with their large inventory of used combines see where big dealer in central Ia is having huge sale something has to break local dealer in Kalona has over 3mill in just used combines.

It's amazing how much money is handed out through Government Grants & Subsidies. I often wonder, Farming the farm or farming the Government?

Two "BTO's" I know aren't only grain farming. One has a trucking business with around 50 semi's tractors and about that many drivers, plus maintenance people. Farming is a "sideline". The other has an elevator and hog operation with many farmers feeding out the hogs they farrow. So, they have this kind of equipment but some of their $$$ comes for their "sidelines".

IMHO - apparently there's a lot of $$$'s in farming. How much profit - well......

In my neck of the woods, farms ain't all that large - to many mountains hemming in the fields. Yet, the dealer lots (regardless of color) are loaded with large 4x4 tractors with loaders and cabs.

I bought the second lowest priced JD tractor a couple of years ago - a 5055d. I'm happy as a clam. Small Honda cars cost more than I paid for the tractor - heck a New Holland BC5070 baler costs more than the JD I bought and it don't have a motor - LOL!

I don't sweat it though - to each his own. If you got money to spend - and spend it, good for you.

It's just interesting to me how much tractors and equipment cost - new off the lot. There HAS to be some HEALTHY return on the $$$'s to repay.

I see new equipment everyday on I-79 between Washington, PA and Morgantown, WV. Crazy to think the price of that stuff. Sprayers, planters, pickers, tractors you name it. And its all brand new and its own all colors. Mainly green but lots of CNH as well.

Stewart Farms from Yorkville, IL run all Cat. They ran a 760 Lexion with a 16 row head at their home place and did a video, Lexion 10 hour challenge. In 10 hours time they cut 51K bushels. They usually run two 16 row machines down here unless they get behind and then they get Birkeys out of Gibson City to help. They don't farm as much as they did in the past. They were over 10K and went down to Auburn to Hennepin to Yorkville. They have much better equipment than Walkers had when they farmed(mined) it for two years for Stewart when they first bought it(4300 acres). A few years back they enlarged their grain setup at the home place. The elevator was shutting down at noon here. My buddy that hauls some for them, took several loads from Farmer City to Yorkville to test their new system out. They are nicer that some of the BTOs in the area. Rosentreter(IL Family Farms) farmed(?) about half a mile away for a short time. One of Stewart's sons(Spirt Farms) took the rest of the crops out when Rosestreter went belly up. Live by the sword and die by the sword. This time might be chapter two.

And when the last field of wheat is about harvested, and the next payment due, the danged things catch fire!!!

I supervised the crop ins. claims for Arkansas Farm Bureau for a few years. They would have fire ins. on the crops so we got to see some burnt up combines and cotton pickers.

On the other hand business often can be losing money for many months and not even know it, and then after they know it they can continue for months in denial, Then they can continue for months on creditor's money.
