Bought another wagon

I bought another Simmons rear dump silage wagon at an auction today. I've got another one that I've had for quite a while, but the other one has a roof. I'm thinking maybe I can take the roof off that Knight front unloader that's on its last leg and swap that over on to it. We'll see.

It's wood. It just dry rotted. Quite an old wagon, you can see for yourself it's ready to fall in to a heap. The roof might be about the only thing holding it together. I don't even know if it'll make a good fire.

Nice looking wagon. I much prefer a rear unloader when piling silage anyway. The fronts work, but rear is so much easier and faster.

I've seen a home made top on a rex box. What the guy did was made it at an angle front to back then used chicken wire on the side. He used full length roofing steel on top

I have been thinking of making a couple of those, but since the old guy is getting to feeble to get on and off the tractors, I may just call in a custom guy this fall.

These aren't bad. The latch on the endgate is automatic. All I have to do is plug in the hose when I hook on and I don't have to get off again.
There was a mill here that used to turn these out by the dozens, but they've been closed up for quite a few years now,so it's getting a little tough to find a good one anymore.

Looks good, is the running gear Simmons also? Looks heavy duty, nice tires. I thought it may be a Korey running gear since its orange? Just a thought.

I wish we had wagons that big when I was a kid. We would laugh at those now! Is that a little camber I see on the back wheel?

Knowles running gear, same as the other one. Simmons must have had a deal with them. Most of them I've seen have a Knowles under them.

Very nice wagon, you did well. What brand hoist is under your box?
Back in the day there were lots of barge boxes with a hoist now the
hoists are getting a little harder to find good used ones.
The old Knight has seen better days but they were well built when new
and still there is allot of salvage in the web, hardware, stringers
and unloader. You have a great idea to repurpose the roof. I have a little
storage shed made from a Knight box and covered with brown steel but
the roof is the dead give away. Good luck and enjoy.
