I'm putting all new lines and compressor on my IH 886. I'm going to put it all on and my mechanic is going to draw it down and charge it back up when I am done (it's a favor - he usually only works on cars/pickups). He asked me how much refrigerant the tractor holds. Anyone have any idea?

I'm gonna GUESS original R-12 charge was in the 3 to 4 lb. range.

ASSUMING you are going with R134A, typically (by weight) it will take 80% of that.

It has a sight glass which will NOT completely clear of bubbles like it did with R12, and watching that begin to clear, and monitoring the low-side pressure vs. ambient temp will help him decide when to quit adding refrigerant.
