F-14 made of gold?

Saw an ad in the bargain sheet, "1937 Farmall F-14 with rare sickle bar mower, 98% restored, fresh paint over epoxy primed tractor, new tires and tubes, $9,500." I thought that price was way too high, am I thinking wrong?

I picked up a vintage tractor magazine recently and one story was about a guy who restored an IH 674 to 'As new' condition. Well I must admit the original tractor looked a real basket case and the 'after' pictures showed he had put a lot of time and effort into his restoration, it looked stunning. Then I read at the bottom of the article how much money he had spent on it. Fourteen thousand pounds! ( About $19,930 US ) Eh?

The new tires are worth more than the tractor for sure.

Yes the F-14 was only built in 1938-1939.

I was told by someone who worked at the IH plant during the 1960's and he said the F-14's were only built for 6 months since the "A","H" & "M" also came out in late 1939 to take the place of the "F" series tractors. Evidently some of the F-12's were built in the first part of 1938.

$9500 is way overpriced in my book...

That would have to be a really really good, top notch restoration to go for that much. The only F-14 I ever heard go for near that much had the rare options such as the factory wide front, electric start, lights, fenders, etc. It seems like from how he is advertising it that he believes it is the sickle bar mower that is worth a lot. Even then, if it really is a top notch restoration on the F-14, most I've seen sell for around $4,000 which would mean he is valuing the sickle bar mower at $5,500. Either way its a lot.

As far as being a 1937, I have a 1937 F-12 which was converted into a F-14 at the factory. It has all the upgrades, including the higher RPM listed on the serial plate, except the serial plate still calls it a F-12 because it was still 1937.

I have a F-14 on a pole in my yard. That is where it belongs as I can still remember using one of those to pull a plow and it was no circus.

You can tell the difference between the F-14 and the F-12 by the way the steering rod goes over the hood. The F-12's steering rod goes flat from the steering wheel to the top of the radiator and the F-14 slopes from the steering wheel to the radiator. By looking at your tractor you can tell which model you have.

Farmall F-12 and F-14 aren't worth much at all but the impliments for those tractor's
Have become hard to find. Single bottom mounted plow, two way mounted plow, sickel mower is about the most common around now. Finding a mounted planter is next to imposable. Not to mensition electric start and wide front axle or even a set of front steel wheels for the wide front. some of these things can bring some big money.

He may have spent that much on it and is trying to get his investment back. He may not be aware of its current market price. Another possibility is it isn't his idea to sell it, so it's priced to never sell.

sounds like either he's trying to get his money back out of it after having to pay somebody else to restore it, or is being pressured by the mrs to get it gone, since he really doesnt want to sell it he puts a price on it that nobody will pay, thus keeping the tractor, even though it is for sale
