my 38 year old appaloosa gelding had to be put down this morning let him out of his stall along with his three other horses they stay in at night and we let them out threw the day.hes been blind for about two years but follows the other three around the pasture.he always goes straight out and lays down rolls around a little then gets up and goes about his way.but this time he was about half way back up when we heard something make a loud popping sound or like a tear or something like that i was about seventy feet away and could hear it pretty good.he went back down and that was it he could not get back up .vet came out and after three hours it was obvious he wasnt ever getting back up.he was everyones favorite horse just one of those kind of horses he was just always very aware of everything going on around the farm and with people.sure hated to see him go like that but he lived a long happy life guess you cant ask for anymore than that.

Rick, sorry for your loss, iv worked with thoroughbreds for 26 years, had to put down alot of them due to old age, this is my mare at 29 she's now 32, I dread the day she's gone. Iv been with her since 1990.

Sorry for your loss. We have gone through that with a couple horses, and a burro. Never gets easy to lose a animal friend, large or small. Stan

Sure puts a stink on our week. You tell yourself he had a good life and it is pretty obvious you provided for him well. Just can't put away the sadness of him not being there when you look for him. Worst part of life, in my opinion. Dealing with the loss of those people and animals that we love. Best wishes.

Sorry for your loss also. I know the feeling ,had to put one down after 32 years. Broke his jaw in a freak accident.Put my dog down the same year after 13 years. They really become members of your family.I replaced the dog but this one dont hold a candle to the other

Theres no doubt he was loved and well taken care of,38 years is a long ride for a horse. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. It takes a long time to recover, but thinking of the good times helps a little.

Those horses are older then I am. We had a cat that was born when I was in third grade. A few years ago he died, its amazing how such a hole gets created from the loss of an animal thats always been there. It was a disaster when out dog lucy died, she was always in the same places at the same time.

We are sorry for your loss. It is terrible being mortal. At times I wish our animals would outlive us. Very similar to the saying childre should outlive their parents when a son or daughter dies before their time.

Michael Price you hit the nail on the head about the hole that is created when a pet passes.
