Anyone in constant pain? Since I found out my hip joint needs to be replaced, I am in pain when I walk, or lift my leg, like getting in my truck. Getting up from sitting will also get my attention. In the meantime I am trying to get by with pain pills. I got a cortisone shot today. That may do a little good. I used my tractor Saturday disking my daughters horse ring. Once on the tractor I'm fine. It's getting up and down. I would like to be able to atleast do my mowing jobs this season. I will see if I can tuff it out until Fall. As I see it, by waiting it will not hurt anything. Hip joint is already bad. I will see it I can get a grease fitting on the ball joint when it gets replaced. Stan

So far don't need a hip replacement...knock on wood. See if the Dr. can clean it up and line the socket with a little JB Weld. Put in the grease zerk (use food grade only grease) should be good to go.

I have a lot of arthritis in my spine from middle of back up, so yes, but do not take meds for it.

I hurt 24/7. Any more if I did not hurt when I woke up in the morning I would be afraid to get out of bed. If it isn't my back its my hands if it isn't my hands its my knees and some thing else.

yep know your pain was at work guy pushed a 300lb steel box off table told me to catch it. Broke my back that was a year ago ins has done nothing docs said get used to it you will never work like you did. Docs say take more pills, I take them when I can't stand it.

I had both mine replaced. I was in constant pain for about 5 years. It got so bad at end I would put my foot down, plant it, let my hip joint settle in then step. I got to the point I had to lift my leg with my pants to get up steps or into car. Couldn't get in truck for a bit, as I couldn't get in it. Don't wait to long. It has about 3 months until you can do a lot with a new one. If you wait to long the other side will go bad on you.

Good luck, don't get hooked on the pain pills

Not saying it will help a worn out joint but for some pain I use DMSO look it up.
Buy it in a roll on bottle.
Mericle Stuff

Ask your doc about "rooster comb injections". I had them in my knee a year ago and have been pain free since. Cortisone lasted a day. I was down to walking with a cane till he gave me them. About like giving the joint a shot of grease.

Have degenerative conditions in lower back and neck. Arthritis in just about every joint. Used to be managed fairly well by nnalert but then nnalert started to shut down my kidneys so had to stop taking it. Now the pain is constant. Any time I sit still for 5 minutes it is really hard to get moving again.

Yes, it was back pain. I have been on heavy duty pain drugs which kept the pain mostly in check to somewhat function. I'm now recovering from spinal fusion surgery, done two weeks ago. In the recovery room I was certain the Dr had fixed my problem, I'm impressed, I already have greatly reduced my pain drugs, even though my fusion is still far from complete. I haven't felt this good in years. There is hope! Hang in there Mr Indian motorcycle.

I am living with the results of that free Orange gift they gave us in nam. Right arm pretty much useless.Hands burn all the time, face is numb. But according to the VA. I am just fine.

I had gout in my right big toe 4 years ago, on and off, traced it to eating too much pork. 2 years ago when my wife had an affair I ate very little and went from 200 lbs to 180, then my left toe swelled up, we found it was from the rapid calorie loss, iv had pain in that toe ever since then.

Stan, If I were you, I would get it done ASAP. The longer you wait, the more dependent you're going to get on the oxycodone. The cortisone in the hip was good for about two weeks, (they said it should last two months). I had mine done on November 4th and I was doing pretty good a month later; real good two months later. Now, I feel 10 years younger. Please don't put it off if you can.

Marilyn's doc told her the longer she puts off hip surgery the longer the recovery will be. It has something to do with the muscles but he didn't elaborate any farther than that.

Yes, I am in constant pain 24/7 in my left hand never changes. Neurosarcoidosis in my spinal cord took me down I am relearning how to walk now and working on improving my balance.

My wife has fibromyalgia and she hurst 24/7. I used to say I can not imagine hurting all time. Then I fell and hurt my shoulder and have been in constant pain since New Year's Eve. Can't sleep lying down cause it hurts so much. I am sure it is a torn rotator cuff but surgery will put me out of work for three months and I can't afford that. So I will deal with the pain.

I have some pain pretty much constant from combination of hips spine, thumbs and knees. Most days I get by with one Alleve. some days three or four depending on how active I am. When I found out that I needed my first knee job I was helping to pick pumpkins. When I saw the Doc, he told me that his scheduler would call me. I made it a point to look at her photographs on display at the county fair so that I could get a little leverage with her. When she called, I told her that I needed to wait until right after tractor pulling was done which was only five weeks from then, and I needed to be ready for snowmobiling come February. Well they got me in on December 3rd, and I was able to go riding on Feb. Last year I took just one Oxycodone and just one so far this year.

My dad had fibromyalgia, prednisone really helped him.

I have had rotator cuff surgery, it is a LONG recovery.

I don't know about your painful hip. But I put off getting a knee replaced for years and put up with allot of pain and living on pain pills. I finally had enough and had it replaced 16 months ago. I was out of commission for about two weeks and was pretty much back to normal after about 6 weeks. I just had to be careful and not get too carried away with anything. Like others say I would have done it ten years ago if I had realized how it was not a real big deal and how good it feels now. Just saying.

Stan my father is now 63 has had 5 hip replacement surgerys. You can get through this. Don't be afraid and do what they tell you. Good Luck.

I am in constant pain from back problems and now arthtites. Have taken bushels of pain pills over the past 30 years. Gals at the Dr office give me a blood test for pain every now and again, they constantly tell me I am in as much pain every day - as a gal is while she's having a baby. I believe them. Good luck with yours. Tom

Best thing I ever did was knee replacements. Now my ankle is blown out. I just try to ignore it . I do the bike at the gym for my knees but when I get home my ankle is killing me. Maybe one day a week I think hey my ankle is not hurting. Got two cortisone shots first worked for awhile ,second not so much. I could take aspirin but they discontinued the Bufferin I like.

For years I my left hip hurt. Finally it got so bad I couldn't walk and I had it replaced. I can tell you it will be a lot better when it is done and in six weeks you can get rid of the hydrocodone.

David, they fused L4-L5, micro-discectomy at L2-L3. The surgical site is still sore, but wow do I feel better, and I'm on way less pain drugs than I have been for years. Dr only does spines.

I'm having my left knee replaced April 4th. Tired of hobbling around, pad is gone and part of the bone has worn away. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Helllo 37Chief,

No grease fitting needed.........
Leg side titanium; ball is ceramic. Other part is teflon. That is what one of my family member said they used . Plus they added 1/8 " to make both legs the same length. No cane, and no limping now, and no pain!

Guido.

If you just got cortisone the dr may not want to do a hip replacement for a time, til it"s worn off. I"ve had both hips done, one in "09, the other last June. Both bone on bone for a long time, but last one I was on hydrocodone both before and after the replacement. Yes, one hydro side effect is constipation, and meds can alleviate that issue. Most important thing in replacement is to do your exercises...some even do them before surgery. June surgery was different, less intrusive, (cuts along the muscle, not across it) quicker recovery. Definitely worth it.

Gary, your pain will probably go away sooner than you think, unless you keep hurting your shoulder. I came thi-i-s close to having rotator cuff surgery this past summer but changed my mind. Now shoulder does not hurt at all. However, when rotator cuff is not repaired it causes muscles to weaken. Now I can't raise any weight above shoulder level---can't even raise a full jug of milk to the top shelf of the fridge. It hasn't much affected the other use of my arm. If you are a young man with a lot of working years left you might consider the surgery. Me, at 75, it doesn't make much difference.

Yes ,I have pain every day in my left knee . Fell about 20 years ago , and tore up the inside of my knee bad. Doc. told me to live with it for a few years , maybe it would get better, has only got worse. I wear a tension bandage on my left knee when I do chores or have to walk fora spell. My knee cracks and snaps every time I bend it. Been thinking lately that it could be time to go back to the Doctor again and ask about a fix.

Stan recovery time isn't that bad. The hip is the easiest joint to replace in the human body. The should joint the most difficult since it has so much rotary motion. I would get you hip replaced before it throws your back out that's not repairable. This time of the year isthe best time of year to have a joint replaced so in the warm summer days you can get out and keep the new joint loosened up which is a big factor on joint replacment - "Exersize" is the key. Better than laying or sitting in the house all winter when the new joint can get stiff...

My late wife had two hip replacements, same hip. Dr screwed up. Both times Dr cracked her feamer. Second time Dr installed a metal plate and screws. She was in pain after that. Her ball and socket was bone on bone, made ball a flat spot.

Every day. Shoulders, feet, knees, hands, neck, back. And I'm only 56. 40 some years of bulling and abuse takes it's toll.

Larry: Glad you are feeling much better but remember DON"T go and do something your not suppose to ! Give it time to heal up.

You are right on three months. That is how long it took me for my shoulder back in 013.

Good luck and you will feel much better once you have it repaired by the right surgeon.

I've been in constant pain for over 20 years. I take some meds that take the edge off but it's there.

Before you go thinking about putting it off here is a little food for thought. You are putting more strain on your other hip because of the bad one which in turn is making things harder for you.

Rick

Find out what brand of hip your doctor uses and make sure it has a good record. I know DePuy and Stryker have both had recalls and there has been some controversy about the material used in the joint. Even the metal on metal have had problems.

My Mom had it done twice because the first one was recalled. You want to do your research first and don't just say OK to whatever brand the doctor suggests!

had back pain sence I was 16 yrs, been going to dick benders for 30 yrs same one for 20 yrs, finally had enough and went to DR to get meds for pain over the last 4 yrs they finally settled on oxycodone 15, 4 a day and it helps some. still about a 3-4 pain level

And if you know then what you know now, would have taken better care of your body? I wish I had.

I am learning a lot about pain meds, since I have been taking them. Someone told me about the oxy number 10. That is what I am taking now. Doctor gave my 120 of them. (party time) just kidding, but they do make me feel good. Now I see there is a oxy number 15. You muse really get a buzz from them. Just be careful. I just wonder what our parents, and grand parents had to go through with out the pain medicine available now. I know my Dad sure could have used pain medicine for his continued back problems. Stan

I had both hips replaced, one year apart. Get it done unless you have other issues that would prevent it. I still have allover pain from arthritis but I can tolerate that. Otherwise I would be in a wheelchair. Find a surgeon that does a LOT of joint replacements.

I am really pretty good on that one, hands get tingly from time to time, the others bother me more, feel like I have a knife between shoulders most of the time.

37 chief, I was on oxy 325-10, then he changed me to morphine 15, they made me puke, then to morphine 60 two a day timed released, still made me puke. now I am on oxycodine15 four times a day, pain level is down some still about a 4. you know it when you miss a pill. sleep is the best when your asleep there is no pain.

For all you guys with chronic pain find a Doterra Essential Oils person in your area and see what they have that might help. I use a topical cream called Deep Blue and it really works and they have no side effects and are not habit forming. In the 1970's my dad who was in his 60's suffered with a bad knee for a couple of years and the dr wanted to do knee surgery. Dad declined and one day he was walking across a wet pasture that had a hot wire around it to keep our hogs in and hit the wire across his knee and he said it knocked him down but from that day forward till he died 18 years later he never had another knee pain.

I also injured my shoulder and put off going to doctor. When I finally did go and had a MRI I was informed I had one muscle that had turned to fat and another one that was on it's way. I had a full thickness tear with retraction. Doctor said the shoulder could not be repaired and even a replacement would not help much because of the muscle loss.
That was two years ago and today because I used the shoulder to the limit I have very little pain, can lift my arm over my haed and even hammer nails overhead. The doctor said other muscles will learn to help for the ones that are damaged.
