I'm looking at buying a 2002 model, but I can find little to no info on this tractor online. It doesn't come up on the Agco Parts Book page, and even tractordata.com has very little info on it. About the only things I know are it has a Perkins 4-236, but no one seems to carry parts for that engine. Also I know it is about 700 lb. lighter than the MF 271. Why?

ANY info you guys can give me is hugely appreciated.

The 4-236 has been a very good engine. It arrived in Massey tractors in the early 60's. My father bought an MF 180 Diesel in 1965. The engine
was bullet proof as they say, the rest of the tractor left alot to be desired. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the tractor if the tractor is as
good as the engine. The parts for the engine a redibly available through Agco, and certainly through Tom's AgriDiesel (I'm not associated with
Tom's in any way). I'm sure there are other places with engine parts also. I'm a John Deere fan to a point, that being said, I wished many times
that John Deere would have used the 4-236 instead of their own 300 series engines. The "E" in 271E stands for economy model. E indicates
basically bare bones, and sometimes lighter drive line. If you were planning on heavy draft ie plowing, deep riping, etc, that will put a heavy
strain on the drive line, I would look elsewhere. The E tractors make an excellent general chore tractor.

Thanks Larry,
It wouldn't see much extreme use with me as I don't farm. Just a few calves now and then.
I'm mainly interested, because it is 8 years newer than my 253 and for what it would cost
to put a loader on mine I can trade for the 271XE

IRC the MF 271XE was just the "value" version of the MF 271. I think it was built in Brazil and was a striped down model. Meaning stamped steel wheels over cast centers and that type of thing. I think the drive line is the same as the regular 271. Your wrong on the 4-236 parts availability. They are pretty easy to find. That motor is sued in several MF tractors. IF your just needing a general chore tractor not heavy tillage etc., then the MF 271XE should work fine.

The major difference between the two models, besides the XE being newer

MF271 made in Turkey by UZEL

MF271XE made in Brazil by AGCO

I guess the ones made in Brazil are lighter built as far as weight

They both had the Perkins 1004.4 (244ci)not a 236

I would look at the AGCO Parts Book page again, they are both there in the MF section
