I read your post about your upcoming surgery. Sorry to hear about that.

I have been through the part of having 1/2 of my Colon removed due to cancer(2013). Then have to go back and have my entire Colon removed due to more cancer.

No Colostomy bags. Just re-hooked up the plumbing and go. It was not what I expected.

Greg ,, Thank You for taking note of my challenge , and My Family Welcomes ALL YOUR PRAYERS ... I wonder if this come s in 3s , my sisters son -in -law has leukemia. and my 1st wifes brother went to florida to have 5 head tumors removed ,. he is doing well , we worry mostly for the s-I-l , Rush, he seems to be on the exact same track that took his younger brother 4 yrs ago //// .. it was just shear luck it was found ... you may call me if you wish.. 812-596-4605. it would be good to hear a success story . The worst fears I have is waking up dead, LOL or ,. because of sumthin done or gone terribly wrong , infection , or a ugly spread since it was 1st found ..andthen I could have a cancer fight on my hands . I can say this.. at 59 ,,..I have had my share of ups and downs in this life and in the sack .LOl ,I have 4 beautiful grown children , and 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters,. had serveral come to Jesus religious experiences and naturally have back slid into the worlds problems ... I know there is a GOD that LOves Us ALL in spite of OUR faults ,.. and that he values hearing from us and will send clues to steer us thru hardships and give us people to help us thru our challenges that we can learn from one another.. LIKE IRON SHARPENS IRON.so we sharpen our fellow man... I also know the evil one is out there trying to snare us ,, and I knew , that my wife and I were stupid to follow his path before our 1st marriage failed .. Yes, I have prayed for forgiveness of my sins and understanding for all my faults and failures , and I have that NOW from my 1st wife ,my SARA and I have a cousin like relationship of helpful endurance with them ... that is true success for all of us ... /// in the final analysis ,, I do believe that God keeps a book of our beliefs and our rules we observed in this life . and come Judgement Day , He Will judge us by our own book of rules and beliefs we wrote as we lived this life,, ,.. if God were to choose to lose his patience with me and pull my life plug here in this life,And if, he allows me to sneak into Heaven ,i will be quiet as can be , so perhaps he won't notice me . 01gentdc- I'm 56 y/o. so we are kinda close in age.

My phones are out right now due to heavy, wet snow. Ill try to contact you, by phone, when the lines are repaired.

For right now, do you have any questions on what to expect when you come out after surgery?

the doc says 4 to 10 days in hospital, depending on how well the pipeline is working ,,.than at least month of don't overlift and overwork, no one has told me what pain will be like if incision is made , they mite do lapo if it will allow ,butone never knows tillyou get into the river , how to make it thru to the other side . . the 1st 2 weeks or so really going easy an slow ,,.they are gonna chek lymph nodes and give me a good going over while I am there .. my sara will make sure I only eat what is allowed ,,, rite now they are only telling me about the prep 36 hours before ,, . one day at a time I guess... today , I sent a bottle calf to a friend and sold him a bull and a heifer too ,,.. he will be feeding my herd for me here ,while I am laid up,,. my sons could and would help if need be ,,, and I intend to be able to receive calls and out to keep tabs on things ..

01gentdc- The first time. My Doc started out trying to do the lapo but had to cut me from bottom of Sternum to top of groin. As for pain....1st day was mostly getting over the anesthesia. From there, I recouped pretty fast. The worst part for me was when I had to cough. That HURT. But, I found out, grab a pillow and hold it tight against your belly(as hard as you can), then cough.

Buy some Depends. That way you won't be rushed to get out of bed to make it to the toilet. If you happen to have an accident, at least the depends will protect soiling bed, floor, carpet, clothes, walls!...LOL!

In three weeks, I was back on my tractor and taking it easy and slow.

I also found that buying on of those things you wrap around your waist with velcro ends(to support your back while lifting) helped a lot. I didn't exert a lot of pressure on the staples with my guts pushing out. It just a way to lessen the chances of pain or popping a staple.

Take it easy and don't try to exert yourself too hard and you will do fine.

If they take your entire Colon out like me (second surgery), then that will be another whole lot of suggestions and what to expect
