redoing a t-bucket i bought last fall and have a question on brake master cylinder,..the only place i fine to mount it so ican get to it is toward the rear,...it will leave me with about 18" of brake rod from pedal to master cyl. in the picture you can see where i'm thinking of putting it, the white line to the right directly above the end of the drill bit is where the pedal will mount. any thought on problems i might have by putting it so far back, mounting on the firewall is out!!

What difference could it make how long the actuator rod is? [You might want to box that frame up . It does not look real beefy].

If the rod is too long it could be bendable, put a larger diameter in the middle to stiffen it. Maybe cut the rod and extend it with a steel tube?

thanks, i just didn't know if mounting farther from the front made any difference,...i have all the proportioning valves and stuff,............JIM

I agree on boxing the frame in -- check the geometry on your peddle before putting it in -- 6 inches of peddle equals to how much master cyl. movement - do your homework and it will pay off -- BTW I built a bucket T back in the middle 70"s --it ended up in the black hills area of SD PS-- my girl friend looked good getting in with her minni skirt -- wwwhhhoo bbboooyyy -- She is still my wife today and she is still hot-- back off boys -- she is not for sale -- LOL the wife that is !!

A long piece of anything is more flexible than a short one. For example take and cut an 8 or 10 inch piece of straight wire, welding, or coat hanger and push on the ends toward each other, you will likely bend it fairly easily, but if the piece was only 1" long it would take a lot more to compress/bend it. If the rod is being pulled, well then the length wouldn't matter much, I assumed the rod would be under compression, most rods that go to master cylinders are.
