A/C question follow up

I cleaned up the heat control valve and hooked it back up. I ran the a/c the whole time I chored (it got up to 70 here today) and liked to nearly froze myself out of the cab. A cab is a pretty easy thing to cool when it isn't summer, though! I have a feeling if it was 100 and I was running the baler I would think it needed a charge so I am going to see if I can find some R12 in case. Amazing to me that a system from 1977 works but I worry that my 9 year old pickup may not have working air come summer.

BTW- I don't recall our 1086 having a "purge" fan setting. I guess it must have. Can I run it on that setting simply as a higher fan speed?

There should be a sight glass on the filter drier mounted on the tractor in the center at top of the nose on the front under a small cover, Then you could check it without even putting gauges on it.

I've been adding R-134 to ANY Automobile A/C System and NOT had one bit of trouble and this goes back 10 years...

Max Cooling does occurs at a higher "Low-Side" pressure (Generally)..depending on the amount of R-134 added, but it gets just as Cold...!!

R-134 is a good substitute for R-12. Works about the same. Pressures will differ some, but overall, it is as good as R-12. But, it does require a different oil. In an R-12 system, the oil circulates with the refrigerant. The oil used with R-12 will not circulate with R-134. As a result, you need the oil that WILL circulate with the R-134 - either PAG or Ester oils.
