ford 8n solenoid problems

i just bought a new starter solenoid and put it on my ford 8n. and when i press the starter button. the starter turns but the solenoid clicks.ps its a 12 volt. thanks.

Starter turns but solenoid clicks??? Can't have both unless the starter starts to turn then stops and solenoid starts clicking. Poor connection will cause that and or did you buy the correct 3 wire solenoid or did you get a 4 wire one?

My new solenoid has failed. No continuity betweer batt and starter wire post. What could have caused this

So where di you buy the new solenoid at?? Good chance you got one of them made in the land of almost never right which could well be why it did not last

redmanz.........as a general rule, starter solenoids are bulletproof. On 8N's ya gotta mount it so the little middle terminal faces the engine block and is hard to gitt-too. Ya mount it BASSACKWARDS and it will perform just as you are complaining. BTW, starter don't care 6-or-12 volts; positive (+) or negative (-) ground, ALWAYS turns the correct way. .........the amazed electrical Dell
