Thread sealer

I have another maple syrup question. I figured you might know the answer to this with the infinite wisdom that exists on this forum. I just had a new stainless steel maple syrup pan made. It has a threaded drain on one end. I am going to put a nipple to a ball valve then a 90 elbow to point the syrup straight down to the emptying kettle. My question is what do I use to seal the threads when it is exposed to heat? I doubt Teflon tape handles heat well. Or if I use all brass fittings, can I skip the thread sealer? I am also concerned about with chemical exposure in the syrup. Thanks for any advice.

Teflon tape would be my choice, good to 500F, non toxic.

You'll need something between stainless fittings, they are prone to leak and will gall and never come apart. When using stainless in contact with food, go with 316 stainless, 304 has lead content.

Might be a good idea to pick up a roll of yellow Teflon tape. This is a little thicker and tougher. Fills gaps really well. For use with gas lines and such. Any kind of "pastes" would not be a good idea. We work with high temp fryers and they run at 375 all of the time. Valves and sensors are put in with Teflon. Long time ago they use that blu-seal stuff. Takes a torch and a big wrench to get those buggers out.

I would skip the thread sealer and use all brass fittings. Brass is a softer and you should be able to get it tight enough. Absolutely no pressure involved. Get a valve with no nylon seals

Just a few thoughts.
Temp wise even if your syrup is boiling it should not exceed 220 F.
Fittings on water heaters are installed with Teflon tape.
The syrup itself may seal up small thread leaks.

I use standard Teflon tape on my threaded fittings for my syrup pan. I leave the first thread clean of tape so its not in direct contact for my piece of mind. As stated below Teflon tape is used on your water heater in you house.

(quoted from post at 18:11:18 02/25/16) You don't have syrup until it reaches 221F

All depends on what your elevation is.
We are at 2300 above sea level and water here boils just under 208 F.
7 degree above that our syrup is done 215 F.
