...someone help me out. Ad for field cultivator. "Walking tandems"? It's a three section, folds up flat. Don't know what walking tandems means?

Its two wheels on a beam, centered on the arm where the wheel would be. That way both tires are always on the ground. Clear as mud?

The tandem transport and gauge wheels are on a beam that pivots in the middle so when one wheel goes up over a bump the other wheel goes down. It's an equalizer of sorts.

Hey that is the same as some John Deere tractor front ends. Like the tractor is wiggling it's toes.

Dave, Here is a picture of a set on a chisel plow. They are mounted on a beam that pivots in the center and the tires are mounted one ahead of the other. They are a tremendous advantage in rough ground. A lot of implements have them on the wings also. They take a lot of the shock out of hard rough ground and let the implement work at a more constant depth.

I assume there talking about the tires and frame configuration. What their stating is that there are two pair of wheels mounted on a short frame may be five two six feet long. The short frame has a pivot point in the middle that it follows the contour of the ground. I attached an Internet picture as an example.

Dave the term means it has a walking beam with tires at each end with a pivot in the middle. The advantage is that it cuts any grade changes in half. Example: you drop one wheel into a six inch deep hole. With a regular single wheel the machine would drop the whole six inches. With a walking tandem it would only drop three inches as one tire would still be up a ground level. The walking tandem makes the field cultivator hold depth better.

Here is a picture of a field cultivator with walking tandems.

Here's mine. Basically the same cultivator without the walking tandems. I've got flat ground so it works great for what it is.

I get it, thanks! It was running kind of low in price and thought I would bid on it. Now it is running a bit higher and with all the snow on the horizon I don't think I could get there soon enough to suit the auctioneer. Appreciate the info!

A Hendrickson truck suspension is simular in that the front and back axles pivot on a rubber bushing centered between the two axles. Rough riding like the Mack camelbacks.

I like duel wheels better than walkin tandums, with walkin tandums more bearings to go out and one flat and your done
