the 100.00 Dollar Bill

I know most farmers like to have some or a lot of these on hand in case a deal comes up.

Also heard that the officers can detect a car with a lot of them in a drivers possession--something to do with the coding inside the bills..

Anyway the question--will a time come when they will be called in to the Banks and we will have to use plastic???? Just wondering................

I think they will just quit making them and the ones in circulation will just wear out. I think the goal of the government is is to switch to a total electronic non cash system. That way they can monitor all transactions so they can get their tax. Also if all your money is electronic they can easily confiscate it in an emergency such as welfare payments that need to be made...

t happened to the 500 and 1000, didn't it

Sorry, but I do not follow your reasoning. The government will not stop printing money because they do not have to support the money with anything tangible.

Your correct but with a total electronic system they don't even have to print it just create it with a few key strokes and they can monitor all transactions for tax and control purposes. Thats what socialism/communism is all about, total government control of every aspect of our lives.

I doubt that the government is going to stop printing money anytime soon. They are trying to come up with a way to make it harder too move drug money. And they will fail because the bad guys will figure out how to move smaller bills. Now if we want to look at conspiracy theories maybe it's another jobs program? After all, it will require more people to move smaller bills making more opportunity for some to gain work   .

I could see 1 cent going away before the 100.00 bill, because it cost more to make a penny than what it is worth.

Lenray, other then people on this site talking,95%of farmers I know use ONLY checks for larger buys or maybe plastic for small buys.If someone doesn't take my check, then we DON'T DO BUSINESS PERIOD.I have NEVER been REFUSED yet and that includes Alaska Purchases.

I rarely have $100 cash total, much less stacks of 100s around. :)

But yes, I think there are those in certain areas of govt that would prefer an all electronic system, much easier to control, track, and tax.

There using fake 20 dollar bills now in our area, easier to pass off on teenage cashiers.

I still use them,,

If the $100 bill was going to become obsolete, I doubt the treasury department would be be putting so much time and effort into preventing counterfeiting. The $100 bill will be around for a long time. I agree that the penny will disappear first.

Well we have never done business but if you do then BRING CIF ( that is CASH IN FIST ) . in god i trust all other pay in cash . I will not have someone stop payment on a check then have to go stalk them to collect . Ain't doing it . Don't know you don't know your bank or the banker or his Kin. If i came to you to buy something i would come with CIF and when the deal is done you have you money and i have what i came after. Then what you do with the cash is not my problem , put it in a sock in the drawer , mason jar in the back 40 or put it in the bank.

I had heard that the game Monopoly was going to stop putting money in the game and go to plastic cards. If we ever end up going to just plastic and no more money they better give me some "free credits" then lol. So what is going to happen when they tell you that you don't have any money when it is all plastic? How are you ever going to prove that you do have it. Electronic "money" isn't a sound idea in my book.

In my area most of the craigslist deals are cash only...People I buy from tell me to bring 100's or don't waste my time even coming...So,when I sell its also cash only...Theres no worries that way....Years ago I had several checks bounce on me but I finally got my money from the purchaser.......On one large item 150 miles away the seller would only take a check if I had a bank letter of credit with me.....

I guess I need to explain my question a little more. Say a farmer has 50K buried in cash. For you young bucks--this was common for folks after the depression who had family loose all when banks failed. Anyway--if the Government passed a law that said all paper money will no longer be legal tender and that it has to be turned into banks and a plastic card will be issued for the amount turned in.
Now all transactions will be recorded.................just asking

nnalert has already been hacked and "stolen" electronically; if you can steal something that doesn't really exist.

A wholly electronic monetary system while possible and a beaurocrat's dream come true is too vulnerable to electronic outages and outright hacking.

ever since Nixon ended the gold std. our money hasnt been worth face value since , think about this one , if there is no gold in Fort Knox what is your money really worth? then they keep on printing it , aint that steeling it out of your pocket without ever putting there hand in there? if they can ever get a system for use to privatly pay one another without cash ,it will happen you can bet on that. just spend all your money , then you have nothing for the gov. to track or steel , they will take care of you , thats my retirement plan , because my 401k wont get me there , work till im dissabled ,give everything to my kids , sign up for free external_link care , food stamps , wellfar ect.... im getting my money back one way or the other !!!!

I don't do Craigslist-E-Bay and never will,I have been to out of state auctions that said bank letter needed, but have NEVER been ask to show it when paying.I don't care what others do on paying, but if someone refuses my check then so be it,it is THEIR loss not mine.

And here I was hoping they'd start making $1,000 bills again. Worth about what a $100 bill was in 1960, so you wouldn't have to carry so much around.

I think the nnalert idea is just great. Isn't that how the hackers demanded payment in the hospital data blackmail recently?

oh-oh, aren't those the same serial number sequence the feds gave to 'D.B. Cooper".
