From SW Louisiana to Houston is less than 200 miles. Eddie Knox at Knox equipment is cheaper on a new Howse rotary cutter than any I have found.
He was on Little York in north part of Houston. May have moved to his new location by now.
Bought a 10' Howse from him about 3 years ago. Well satisfied with it.

Don't buy a Deere. I bought a 1508 years ago and have hated it everyday I've used it. The PTO is a mankiller to put on. If you try to turn at all it doesn't mow a big swath. It doesn't have enough tip speed for a decent job.

Oh, and they apparently have discontinued the cap/dipstick so I can't keep it folded in the winter because one of them leaks. I hate that thing. Did I mention that? I have nearly all Deere implements and I can't even be nice about it!

I will second not a Deere, we have a 6 ft that is a good grass smasher unless you take a half swath. Traded a 6 ft Bushog brand that was worn out twice over that cut better than the brand new Deere. Wish I had the old one back but they sold it before we realized what this thing was. Will say it pulls easy cause it doesnt do anything.

Too bad your not closer as I have a Woods MDS1260 10 1/2' cutter in new condition (less than 10 hours) that I have little use for due to changing plans. I just sits in the barn collecting dust, though I do wipe it down and put a new coat of wax on it every year or so.

Try Tractorhouse and Machinery Petes.

(quoted from post at 08:53:47 02/21/16) Are the land pride cutters any good?

I put lots of hours on 6' Landpride mowers and they did a good job....just keep the wheel axle greased well or it will wear out. I switched to an 8' Deere and was disappointed in the cut also. The blades have a 1/4" leading edge, so more tuned to cut brush and not grass. I switched to an 8' BushHog and love it. Sharper blades take less power and cut grasss like a lawn mower.
