FORD WHEEL BEARINGS

I'm replacing brakes/wheel bearings/ seals in 860 ford. the Timken bearing that was in the tractor is timken 3767A. looking for bearings, I find both Timken 3767 and Timken 3767A bearings. I will replace with 3767A bearings, but noticed the 3767 bearing are about half price. can someone tell me the difference in the 2 bearings? just curious. thanks

Looking at the Timken dimension catalog:

http://www.timken.com/EN-US/products/bearings/Documents/7011_Dimension_Catalog.pdf

The A suffix can refer to:
Non standard ID
Different roller configuration
Different radius on the leading edges of the bore

Most likely it refers to the radius on the bore of the inner race. The only way to really know is to do a comparison. Being that much price difference, I would go to a bearing supply and ask some questions, look at what they have. They have connections with the factory and can easily get answers to such.

Pertaining to a Timken CONE, here's what an "A" suffix can mean...

... DIFFERENT BORE FROM STANDARD BASIC PART NUMBER.

... DIFFERENT RADIUS FROM STANDARD BASIC PART NUMBER.

... DIFFERENT COMPLEMENT OF ROLLERS FROM STANDARD BASIC PART NUMBER.

In the case of your 3767 vs. 3767A, bore dimensions seem to be the same, and radius dimension is the same, leaving # of rollers, which the catalog I looked at doesn't show.

So when you get the new bearing, count the number of rollers between the old one and the replacement. It will be interesting to see what you find.
