OT---Bicycle Riding

I saw something today that brought back memories. Two young boys came past my house with "noise flappers" contacting their spokes.
I remember doing that many years ago, and felt like I was riding a motorcycle---No telling how many baseball cards I destroyed, that could be of value today--- LOL

(quoted from post at 18:38:49 02/20/16) Bicycle playing cards work best!! Jim
I grew up poor and I used anything I could find. What really made a loud racket was balloons but they didn't last long!

Once I reached the age of 14 I no longer rode a bicycle I rode a motorcycle so no need to make noise it was built in LOL. Delivered a whole lot of newspapers on that bike

Same with me but I stopped riding motorcycles at about 55 but enjoy my bicycle today that was bought for exercise.

Wow those kids are classic. I probably used Mickey Mantle for that. Like that comedian said " I used to be a millionaire then Mom threw out my baseball cards".

I still have a motorcycle and ride it once in a while. 1981 Yamaha XS650 and that is only one of 6 on the place. My knees would not handle a pedal type bike any more

Strange ---- that is the exact same motorcycle that I last had.
When I first started back to riding a bicycle , my knees hurt. But over time and gradually building up, they no longer hurt.
I try to ride a little every day.

I never did the card thing that I can
remember, but in the winter when it
snowed bale twines made excellent tire
chains. Started every winter day with
new chains so they would last the day.

I did the same thing but used baling wire "X" crossed. Got away with it a long time until my grandpa saw it.
Took a lot of wire to do both tires.

Yes I remember doing that. I haven't rode one in at least 60 years and the other day they had a sale of junk etc at the club house in our park. Well they had some bikes there for sale and one caught my eye "I only have one good eye " and it looked cheep and I thought I might buy it. So I decided to take a test ride on it, Now I was under the belief that if you once knew how to ride a bike ,You would always know how. So I went to take off and the thing came around to the left and I mowed an old lady down and spilled her pop corn and I landed on top of the old lady and the bike on top of us both. The old lady didn't get hurt but I jammed my knee real bad and my shoulder. I aint agonna try that no more.

I use my push bike every day - and enjoy it. It is, however, a loooong time ago I used a flapper held on by clothes pins.
Good memory :)

I use to cut two 1-3/4 in. soft metal pipes 12in. flatten one end on each and drill a hole the diameter of the wheel shaft. Mount on each side of wheel. Dual Exhaust.

Found that it is very critical to get the seat high enough so your leg has the correct stretch. A half of an inch will just mess your day up. Just for giggles take your bike to a really good bike shop and have them check your adjustments. They measure everything and it will be a total change of ride. Look at the comfy bike seats. Then you can buy a set of those carbon graphite wheels. Only $200.oo each. Those are the cheep ones!

My knees are bad due to a fall I had on/in a sub. Fell down the coning tower ladder and well the stop at the bottom on a solid iron grate did not help the knees any. I am suppose to wear a knee brace just to walk any and a cane but as long as I stay on ground have little or no problem but get on concrete well that I have problem with if I walk much
