My Daughter and son in law are having a prefab house installed on a lot near me. It is real close to my work area. I have been watching the progress. The house was brought in, in three pieces, and positioned with a remote controlled tractor. Anyway the garage is separate from the house. I took a walk this morning to see the progress. I knew there should a toilet in the garage. The rebar was being put in. I mentioned to the guy working there. I don't see plumbing for the toilet. He thought, that old codger doesn't know what he is talking about. I mentioned to my son in law this afternoon when he arrived, that I didn't see any toilet plumbing. The big cement trucks arrived about that time along with the pumper. This evening the pumper is still there. Only 1/2 of the cement is poured. Now the blame game starts. I tried to tell the guy. At least it's not as bad as what my next-door neighbor just went through. His Septic Tank kept backing up, so he hired a Contractor to come in and fix it. Had to have the Septic Tank completely pumped out, and a completely NEW Leach Line installed. Turns out that the original sections of Leach Line Pipe had NEVER BEEN JOINED and the Leach Line was NEVER CONNECTED to the Septic Tank. Neighbor has been there for nearly 20 years, and there were THREE previous owners of the property before him.

There was a story in the paper several years ago, think it was in Arlington Tx. People bought a house, had trouble with the drains backing up, called a plumber.

He started snaking the line to the street, couldn't get through, dug up the line... Turns out the line was never connected to the main! Stopped several feet short, obviously was forgotten, somehow just never happened.

Strange thing is the house was 20 something years old! A single man had bought it new, never complained! How is that possible?

the guy working there was doing what the print said to do [not his fault] plumbing wasn't on print, you stopping the pour cost someone a lot of money, concrete co,pump truck, labor, finishers, trowel machine and now you have a cold joint somewhere in the middle of the floor [never be smooth, sweeping cleaning, creeper] all are going to be a problem. should have poured the hole floor, saw cut plumbing in and a lot less money spent and a smooth floor. as far as fault who ever okayed the final print is to blame, maby son in law?

The plumbing was on the print, wherever the print was. The trucks both emptied. One section of floor was complete. The remainder of cement was used for the footings. The stop only caused the main floor not to be finished. This only caused a delay in finishing the job. I would think a saw cut down to dirt cutting through the rebar would be more of a problem, causing a shift in the floor rather than a cold joint, if that's the case. Just the way I see it. Stan

Doesn't seam possible. The ground must have been very sandy. He should of received a refund form the city for the sewer fees for all those years. Stan

37 your a good guy and all, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE STEPPED IN!!! You should have called son in law (or whoever was in charge) *unless you were paying the bill etc* I have seen people get there posterior kicked on the spot for such actions!!!

If a leach line isn't used within a reasonable amount of time they won't work properly. I've seen it happen with ones that sit unused for a couple years because a house is empty.

Sorry guys, I think you need to read more closely before jumping on old Chief.

He saw something wrong IN THE MORNING while re-rod was being installed and said something to the contractor. It would have taken two minutes for the re-rod guy to text message the boss and say- "grumpy old dude axing about shatter in this garage- is there one or should I bury him under this slab"? The re-rod guy failed to follow up.

Mud trucks did not appear until AFTERNOON when s-i-l was there. They had time to ask and answer the question, and get the pipe laid out. Hell, they still probably had time to rough in a drain line while the cement was going in, I would have at least formed in a trench for it. But, that's just me

Up date on the problem. I found out the foreman failed to check the work after it was done, and called for inspection, and the cement. The problem here is the job is around 40 miles from the main office. Stan

sorry for your bad experience! Years ago I was on a residential site where they we going to pour an in ground pool deck at 10. Monster retaining walls already built. Neighbor called a surveyer-you guessed it, retaining wall was about 4 feet over the lot line!

I would mush rather have someone anyone say something before its to late. I believe that even the contractor would like to stop before concert is set. Old sure did the right thing, I hope the ones belittling him have something happen them, and nobody say a thing till its to late. Then say I could've prevented it but I kept my nose out.

Chief you did the right thing. I sure would not want my rebar saw cut. If it had been mine the contractor would have been in there the next day with a jackhammer.
