Was wondering, what You Guys think is the best sicklebar mowing machine for use around ponds, banks, roads, ditches and mowing in general? THANK YOU!

We use JD 350 mowers.

Use the 9ft mowers for cutting hay.

Use the 7ft mower for a backup/secondary mower.

The JD 350 7ft mower would work good "[i:654c4848f0]for use around ponds, banks, roads, ditches and mowing in general[/i:654c4848f0]".

Hope this helps.

nh 450 or 451 are the gold standard around here. Even the green boys prefer them. And parts are readily available from LOTS of sources.

Dad bought a New Idea trailer mower cheap at an auction. It had the heaviest and strongest cutter bar of any mower I had seen. Couldn't use it in damp soil, it would bog down the IH B. On the other hand, a rock or badger hole mound would not bother it a bit.

I'll vote for a NH 451 had one for 20+ yrs. been great machine , use it to mow ditch's and such now after being retired from cutting hay. 3pt, belt drive are very nice. trail type mowers suck to maneuver around. And yes I have run 2 cockshutt 315's pull types for years , cut very nice but do not compare to the maneuverability of a 3pt. mower.

For general mowing, I like the WD-45 with the 82-S belly mouunt mower. I like to see where I am going. It cuts 45 deg down and 90 deg up. I cut mine down to 5-1/5' to get around scrub apple trees and such.
There are times when you have to think smaller when mowing real steep banks and where there are lots of obstacles. The little Ford LGT-120 has a 4' mower which also mows up 90 deg and down 45 deg.
Then.....for the really tuff places, I get out the ol' Jari walk behind mower.
