Hammer Strap

Looking through the latest FASTLINE magazine, there were some ads for John Deere tractors that said under the description Hammer Strap. What are they talking about?

For heavy implements such as a disk or cultivator that have an "eye" hitch instead of a clevis type. It turns the tractor into the female end of the hitch. I only have them on JD tractors but on those the pin is integrated with a hold down strap so you can't lose it. The tractor hitch seems to last much longer without egging out and the eye on the implement is very heavy cast so it is durable as well. I can count four large implements here that have them. It's a real pain if you have to take it off to hook up the other type of hitch. On JD it takes a large crescent wrench and an inch and an eighth wrench. Not that I have it memorized or anything.

It is a type of hitch used for larger implements. It is closer to a pineal style hitch. The tractor has clevis and the implement has an "eye" in stead of a clevis. The full name is hammer strap hitch. Here is a picture of the tractor half.
