Harbor Freight Sonic Cleaners

Hi ,

I just bought a sonic cleaner from Harbor Freight . What kind of cleaner can I put in it to clean small engine parts like carberators for two and four cycle engines that won't harm them or the cleaner ,but will clean the parts ? I also want a solution that won't produce harmful fumes ! I guess that different parts call for different solutions . Delicate parts call for delicate solutions , etc.. Would mean green work or purple power ? I also don't want anything flameable ! Any tips or points , do's or don't's ?

I have a Frankford Arsenal, which is probably much the same. All work on much the same principal - using sound waves to create micro bubbles under dirt particles lifting them. Many detergents will work, some better than others. Try several, see what works. If one doesn't work, rinse parts off, try something else. Try to select detergents that are designed for the purpose. Believe it or not, my favorite is SIMPLE GREEN! That said, I clean all sorts of stuff with mine, not just tractor parts.

I have the same cleaner I use to clean brass for reloading. Purple power works well when used with the heat function. It also works well with carboned up gun parts.

I guess the question I could add would be.. Do you use the Simple Green straight or dilute it with water or something else?

I have been in the cleaning chemical business for over forty years, and sell by the truckload. Don't go by names or brands or color, go by SDS and label instructions. Simple green has about a dozen different versions and some would remove paint. You should use caustic Potassium hydroxide only on very greasy parts. Solvent bases cleaners can be used where caustics would remove paint or dissolve aluminum. For painted products stick with products that are intended for use with bare hands.

(quoted from post at 10:22:01 02/07/16) Doesent the manual have any sugestions
Straight Vinegar will do the job for you. That is all you need. Make sure the fluid gets real warm, but don't over heat. Will destroy the machine.

Hey by the way don't use any solvents. Vinegar is all you need. Been using one for going on 4 years. Be careful of these suggestions you get on these forums.

What sort of dirt or grease or oxide or mineral film are you removing with vinegar? I sell acid based cleaners by the pallet, but since I sell them for only uses where they will actually work, it is used for removing mineral films and oxides.
