new project to work on

Just got my John Deere 70 gas tractor home today can't wait to start working on it haven't got a manual yet it
is 1955 the motor is stuck from sitting inside tool shed since 2004 hope I can get it loose with out hurnting
pistons any ideas? looks like exhaust gasket is blown out on the right side and the bolts holding exhaust
manifold on looks like they are rusted in tight any ideas on how to remove them with out twisting them off? It
has a air inlet stack that comes up through the top nose crown above radiator its all metel looks like a
mushroom on top never seen one set up like that before seen some with the plastic top across from mufler is
this something rare? how can I tell if it has live hydraulics/PTO? it has tree levers it does have power steering
thanks Howard

Howard...remove the spark plugs and fill the cylinders with a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. Let it soak for several weeks. The mushroom stack air intake was a dealer installed option and not very rare. The plastic bowl ones were used on 720's and came through the hood instead of the nose cone. If you have live pto you'll have a clutch pack in front of the pto cover and an engagement lever on the right side of the battery box. Can't tell from your pics what you have for sure.

Pull the valve cover off and check to see if the valves are stuck first. If they are free then remove the top cover and see how the crank is laying. If it's flat you are going to have fun. If it's up or down or somewhere in between you can use the grease gun trick to help it along. Either way I would still pull the pistons and check the rings for cracks and being stuck.

works great when they don't run come-a-long it on and roll on I pulled that tractor about 30 miles today at about 20 miles per hour (gives you a chance to find your next project on the way home) Howard
