Was watching a emergency hospital show tonight. A tractor flipped over on a 66 year old man. The show didn't leave much to the emagination Showed the guy still trapped under the tractor. He survived after a stay in the hospital. Another was a older motorcycle rider in a bad wreck. He lost both hands, and one foot, again very graphic. Seeing this makes me sit up and take notice. How quick things happen. I try to be careful, but I will be a little extra careful after seeing that show. Stay safe out there. Stan

You never know what you will see and/or hear in a ER. I had to go to the ER at 4:00 a.m. (gall bladder). The ER docs were working on a guy in the next cubicle and discussing his injuries after someone beat the snot out of him. All of a sudden things went quiet and then one of the ER docs called out: "Millie, we got another one for you". Millie replied: "How come I get all the stiffs?" Just before he died, I had heard the docs talking about a couple of skull fractures the guy had.

Daughter is ER/Trauma doctor. She is near a major interstate highway...Christmas time she was saying if you are driving and get tired, stop and rest, as she had been seeing the results of falling asleep while driving, among other things. Definitely be careful out there.

37Chief,
My daughter works at a Trauma Center, Level 1, in Indy. You can't believe the stories she has and the number of shootings, beatings, stabbings. The numbers on just on a weekend are staggering, not to mention a high % of all the domestic problems, mentally ill problems all seem to come form a few areas of town, mostly minorities and illegals.

To hear her talk, you wouldn't know she is a left wing lib. She said a Dr compiled the list, even broke them down by zip code. I told her, that information wouldn't be PC to publish.

Was volunteer EMT for rural EMS 30 plus years. Learned people get so careless and do not know how fragil their or someone elses life can be.

It's quite a shock to get a glimpse of what is everyday business for an ER, most are sheltered from it. I can remember one of those times, when this became apparent, having to take my father to a hospital in Brooklyn NY, thankfully nearby, and it was quicker than an ambulance. The person at the window in the waiting room did not understand my situation, that a man was near death without immediate medical assistance, after I said do you see that person in the car slumped over with his tongue hanging out? I did not wait for a response, just drove around back to the ambulance bay. In that area was half a dozen NYPD, and several suspects with bullet wounds handcuffed to gurneys. I ran in, said I need help, all of the NYPD just about knocked me over to get to my dad. They lifted him out of the vehicle, a doctor was with them and thankfully they saved him before what would have happened, and it was cardio related with his BP and heat exhaustion, bad combination, but he suffered no permanent consequences. The madness in that ambulance bay with police and criminals was something.

Just when you think you have a problem, think again. I was in the ER in Manhattan, (blew a small pressure line - tractor speak lol) for this insane nose bleed that came out of nowhere, I could not stop it, girl in the office called the NYPD 10th precinct, I got a fast ride to St Vincents. They packed the nose like a cannon and I was waiting for my next move and I was unsure as to what I was going to do given what happened, bleeding like that. In the bed across the room, a young man was brought in, he had a projection the size of a grapefruit on the top/side of his head ! I heard him say that this is the first time he's seen any medical professionals about it, it was just then starting to bother him! I ended up walking down to Mercer street, to a specialist to get this bleeder cauterized, thinking the entire time about someone doing that inside your nose, and that was nothing compared to what this young man had to deal with.

I thought you were talking about the old Emergency TV show from the 70s. The one where Julie London plays the head nurse. All the years I watched that show, when it was on the first time around and watching the reruns,it didn't click that she was Julie London the singer. She was on an old Jack Benny Show last night and sang two songs.

i was an EMT on our ambulance squad for 35 years and came across an awful lot of trauma cases---many DOA's---but what made me stop doing that was all the cut finger, headache, stomachache cases that did not need an ambulance
My high lite of that was when i delivered a baby girl!

That is the same thing my daughter told me when she was a paramedic in San Diego. Seams like they would pickup the same drunks about every week, to get a warm place to sleep and dry out. Stan

Watching Emergency right now. Kind of funny watching Robert Fuller on Emergency and then watching him on Laramie later. Fix-um up on one show and shoot-um op on the other.
