JD 4030 temp guage

The temp guage quit working on my 4030 so I put a new sending unit in it and that didnt fix it so I got a mechanical guage and put it in and it did not work so I got another mechanical guage from napa this time and it didnt work so I tested them in a pot of boiling water and they worked so I dont know what is wrong and water did come out of the head when I pulled them out to change them what could be my problem? And the tractor is working not just setting there idling

I take that the gauges remain on cold? And the engine is not showing signs of overheating?

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open or has been removed.

yes the guage stays on cold and the thermostat is still in the tractor because i have had it for years but it doesnt show any signs of over heating just worries me not seeing the temp

Replace the thermostats. They are stuck open. JD stats usually stick open not shut. In the winter even working they will not warm up without the thermostats working.

Just a thought, on a different red tractor, and this might not apply at all; I had this same problem, I installed a few thermostats, I installed a couple different temp gages, and honestly my tractor never reeally warmed up except in summer. THis time of year, the temp gage barely moved. Yesterday I got the new set of shutters installed and working, closed them down, and the old girl heated right up into the RUN zone. In fact, I opened up the shutters a bit, it was starting to creep over towards HOT.

Don't know anything about your tractor, but I would agree with other about the thermostat stuck open. My JD M (thermosyphon, no thermostat) won't budge off cold when idling in the winter.

do the trucker thing cut a piece of cardboard and put in front of the radiator it temp comes up you know its the thermostats.
