O/T Internet Service.......

Do any of ya'll have Internet service bundled with Dish TV or Direct TV? If so, how is it working?

I'm totally fed up with Verizon. I started out with a 4 gig per month plan 4 years ago and it was sufficient at the time. To make a long story short, without our changing our hardware or habits, the usage keeps going up with overage charges. I'll get a message that I we can avoid the overage charges by increasing the limit on our plan. We increase the plan by, say, two gigs per month and within a month or two our usage increases be the same amount. We are now up to 18 gigs per month and last month our usage was 18.3.

I have a complaint against Verizon pending with the FCC. In my most recent email from Verizon Customer Service, the gal admitted that if we had other Internet options comparable to Verizon, our monthly bill would be substantially lower. In other words, she was admitting that Verizon bills according to whether they have competition in an area.

I know, that's the American way of doing business, but when you're on the receiving end of it, it gripes you.

The FCC served my complaint on Verizon on January 20, and by law Verizon has 30 days to respond back to the FCC. We'll see what happens there. Meanwhile, I'm looking for other options. We have Direct TV and adding Internet service to it would be simple if the service is satisfactory. Also, the fellow who signed me up with Verizon initially is now a Dish dealer, so I think I'll talk to him.

As I asked, if anyone has Internet service bundled with Dish or Direct TV, I'd appreciate any feedback.

I have Comcast internet. Got rid of cable five years ago. Too many commercials. Internet runs good and I do a lot of tv viewing with live streaming or Youtube.

Well I 'll tell you this , The Wife got rid of Dish so we would get Comcast/Xfinty AND that was a Mistake !, things where fine with the Dish System, but we (needed ) a change !! sure a little snow on the dish to sweep off once in a blue moon. The new system goes nuts every time we have a storm here , and every thing is under ground, I have new lines , new router 3rd one , It must be your computer they say , I said not problems at all with old system
Sorry you had bad luck with Dish , I Would like mine back !!

I have time warner for cable & internet. Internet is good & we use it alot & its $30mth. Its the tv cable thats so expensive.

We had direct tv and every little storm knocked it out. Armstrong cable ran cable by our house so we now have it. Better price and have had some bugs but hopefully they got them worked out. Best this is storms do not affect it.
We has a Verizon mi fi hot spot for the house and a phone for the house and I thought it worked fine ?

AT&T Uverse (telephone, internet, TV) used to be all twisted pair to homes, etc. But because of bandwidth issues, they purchased Direct TV. For new customers that subscribe to Uverse, they will now still get their telephone and internet over twisted pairs, but they will get a Direct TV dish for TV. As of right now, existing customers are grandfathered in and get to keep TV over twisted pair...for now. One of the guys that I work with at AT&T told me that his TV keeps screwing up, tiling and stuff, so he calls the Uverse folks that told him that he needs to go to Direct TV for TV because they changed some equipment out. He tells them that no he doesn't, that he is grandfathered in and they need to accommodate him, so they do until the next time. He had Direct TV but made the move to twisted pair (Uverse) because he lives near a rock quarry that kicks up dust that gets blown for miles, coating his dish and he got tired of climbing up on the roof to clean off the dish and parabola to watch TV. Now that AT&T purchased Direct TV...he is being pushed back to another dirty dish that screws up during storms, whether they be rain or dust. Me? I have Comcast Cable. It isn't cheap, but it generally works and since I'm paying for it out of my pocket, it's my choice.

been there and done that goose,...we started out with verizon and there 5 gig plan, was told "you will never use half of that" within 6 months we were on the 10 gig plan and about to go over on it. no change in usage but kept running over...they have quite a scam going on with there internet...dumped them and went to frontier.....

I understand that the internet services offered by dish or direct are really 'Hughs Net". My neighbor had service from Hughs Net and he was disgusted with it as he was always over his limit and when that happened he said it was slower that dial-up and it cost more.
He and I now have internet service from a small wireless company that is fast and affordable. Check your area to see if that type of service is available in your region.

Mine is a local company. Don't ask me how it works. It's a radio frequency. There is a receiver outside. $30 a month unlimited.

As 2underage says, they don't offer their own Internet. They will bundle anything they have an agreement with in the area. Could be DSL if available, could be satellite. The satellite will be either Hughesnet Gen4 or Viasat Exede, possibly labeled under a different name, but the same exact service and equipment but different data cap policies. You will need to ask them which service they offer in your area.[/url]

Satellite Internet is a solution but not for everyone. The latency across a satellite link will make your connection appear slow, especially so coming off Verizon's terrestrial based system. The other problem with satellite is once your at your limit they throttle your connection speeds. A local Wireless Internet service provider or WISP would be your best bet as mentioned below. They cannot serve everyone cause it is a line of sight technology although that can be worked around somewhat based upon what the wisp is using for equipment. Meaning if you live in the woods or in a valley it probably won't work. Around here it's 65 a month for a 5 meg connection with no monthly limits, fast enough for streaming video from Netflix or similar.

Lucked out. Work for the Telecommunications company and the local exchange I am in, has Fiber To The Home (FTTH). Currently and 20 bits upload and download. Unfortunately, not all areas have upgraded to FTTH and a lot of old copper out there and cannot get any kind of speed over the twisted pair unless you are close to the hut where it comes out of.

When you bundle, you usually sign a contract too. Make sure you understand what is included in the price and what are add-ons. You could wind up paying for more than what you thought....

I had Dish bundled. Will NEVER AGAIN use their internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slow poor service. Our tech up in Nebraska told me if I would have talked to him first, he would never have installed it for us. Helps when you know the tech guys.

Unfortunately, Windstream DSL stops a mile or two from my place and they say they are not going to expand.

Our electric coop offers a line of sight system. It works well even during moderate storms. During severe storms all devices are unplugged. (Lightning got us through the incoming power service one year) The wife has to log in to work from home quite often. There are no limits on usage. You just pick the speed you can afford. Dad, brother , son, nephew and myself just installed a post for my mother's internet service today.

Yeah....Verizon has quite a racket going on!! I'm in the same boat. Started out with 6 gigs....was fine for a few years never even used half. Then a couple of years ago...started going over..no more usage than normal. Had to start upping my plan.....NOW...I'm up to 20 gig plan....today got an email saying that I'm over my limit...AGAIN!!!! It doesn't do any good to call them either!!! BTDT!!!

This might be a better priced Verizon service for home use, depending what kind of other bundle stuff a person has going on, if it's available and no other option like DSL, etc.

I have to run hijackthis on my computer and see if there's malware embedded in it.
I can go over my 3 gig limit in hours.
Verizon.
There is competition here (Cambridge)

I have the basic Hughes Net satellite internet directly from them, the pre-Gen4 version. $64 a month including the taxes and fees. No interest in satellite TV as we have no time to view much TV and no access to cable/cable internet (i.e. it's not on my road). It is much faster than dial up which is all we could get for many years. I bought my equipment rather than lease it. It's been pretty good service, we've had it for several years now. Only issues are when the atmosphere is stormy and during heavy rain or snow. Best speed is in the late evening, I can usually stream some youtube videos then. Down side is 250 meg per day limit, then you drop down to dial up speed. Doesn't take too many video clips to put you over the limit. At least they don't cut you off. After 2 a.m. until 8 there is no restriction, doesn't count against your daily limit. I try to schedule big down loads (like GPS maps) after 2 a.m.
