Did I gear right?

If I heard this correctly the government is going to divert the water that goes ovee Niagara Falls to check for erosion. Now there is tax dollars well spent. Who cares if it is eroding and what can they do about it if it is.

They shut it of once before to clean up rubble at the bottom. I believe I heard one time that they actually divert some of the water at night and slow down the flow so there's less erosion.

Between the parts of the falls, and the power plants, they can do most anything. Yes, this is about some bridges. Years ago when we were there, the guides said they could see a lot of difference in the amount of water going over the falls, based on how much was diverted to make electricity. They have, in the past, diverted enough water to be able to rebuild the face of the falls, where soft rock was wearing away so fast that it was a concern.

How about a better idea, divert the water that goes ovee Niagara Falls to Flint Michigan, two problems solved.

They already divert the water every night to fill up the pumped storage units on either side of the falls. The only reason they don't shut it down all the time is the tourists would quit coming.

We went there 35 years ago and they just about shut the water off at night on the US side to slow the erosion of the cliff faces. You could really tell the difference in sound when they did it. I think they can divert the flow already.

How did Pawlenty let the bridge fall down? I believe that there was no regular inspection schedule in place before it happened. Is that more of MNDot's fault?

Who cares really? It has eroded itself miles from where it started anyway. What a waste of time.

Actually Pawlenty ignored his engineers suggestion to spend two million dollars to reinforce the bridge because some bolts had already seared off. That got covered up real quick after the I-94 bridge fell. The federal government paid most of the 250 million dollars to replace the bridge ASAP.

The people that I had to associate with in Buffalo for business didn't really need water; they just drank booze and stayed drunk all the time. Hated when they decided to quit work mid-morning and go to a tavern and eat chicken wings and leave me stranded across town from my rental car.

There are two stone arch foot bridges, from the river bank, to green island, to goat island, built over 100 years ago, that have deteriorated to the point of being unsafe for foot traffic. They put steel truss bridges over them but have decided they need to replace it all because they aren't pretty.

They shut off the American side in 69 to see if there was anything to do to slow erosion. They hauled the coins out they could find at the time to keep people from going in at night to do it. They decided the best thing to do was leave it be.

What's going to be real expensive is keeping the river bed wet. I guess there is concern the rock would crumble if it dries out.

If flint wants any of it they better catch it on the way by. 4 of the 5 great lakes drain over the falls.

Niagara falls is actually 3 separate falls. Horseshoe, on the Canadian side, American on the US side, and bridal veil between Goat Island and another small island in between the 2.

I saw a documentary on the falls. They shut the water down fast enough to stop a thrill seeker barrel rider from getting to the falls.
