On the way............

to pick up TMR this morning, the roads were pretty slick. Layer of ice on the secondary roads. Came upon a couple of cars in the ditch, each on opposite sides of a corner. Couple of young ladies. They were coming around the corner from opposite directions, both started sliding and wisely decided to take the ditch rather than hit each other. Doesn't look like either vehicle sustained any damage. The corner was sanded, but it had rained since and was freeing on. Even with a loaded truck it required caution.

My wife commutes about 30 miles each morning. She drives as fast as she is comfortable with, does not let others intimidate her by pushing from the rear so to speak. Her adage, if it takes me 10 minutes longer to get there, so what, got there in one piece and did not end up in a ditch or accident. If followers want to go faster, pass. Afraid to swing to the other lane to pass, get in line. gobble

this might get kinda long, but the other day driving home on 4 lane divided highway, pretty good cross wind, 25/30 mph. I noticed a Dodge 3/4 ton pulling about a 30 foot enclosed trailer coming towards me on the other side, was driving on the inside, closest to me lane. Road was just a little frosty, with compacted snow in spots. I watched as his trailer swung to the left and entered the ditch between the east/west lanes, about 3 foot of snow in ditch. that trailer swung to about an 80 or 90 degree angle to truck. plowed up a heck of a cloud of snow that momentarily blinded me, about 30 or 40 yard cloud in front of me. I slowed down, and after I could see again, I looked for a place to turn around and go help him out of what should of been a wreck. Looked in mirror, and he managed to correct it and was just heading on down the highway. can't believe he didn't roll the whole rig. Must have been so much snow piled up on side of trailer that it did not roll. Guy that had been following me, passed a few minutes later and looked at me and just shook his head.
