Before Thanksgiving I removed mower from Jubilee, put back blade and chains on and to date only 2 inches of snow, total. I wasted my time. Some of you are posting pics of your snow and look at my view from pole barn. It's suppose to be 50 on Saturday in Terre Haute.

My local news last reminded us what happened in 78. We got just 15 inches of snow, 58 mph winds and 20 ft snow drifts. Schools were shut down for a long time because of the snow, then because of extreme cold. Diesel buses wouldn't start.

Some think what we are getting is climate change. Never heard of climate change during the blizzard of 78.

Well there is still a change I'll get some snow before winter is over. Guess I take advantage of the nice weather and repair more hydraulic cylinders on my terramite, working on #4 leak.

we got squat for snow uphere in n central Illinois so far this year too. been a mild winter so far. worked on the bronco plow truck last fall putting a trans in it and re sealing up the transfer case. so far only used it one to push about an inch of snow that would of melted later in the day. sheesh. i did have to feed my honey bees last sunday as the mild weather kept them pretty active and the food reserves were getting a little low. ah well spring should be just around the corner.

I think in 78 we were still headed for a new ice age weren't we?
Makes me think of the foolishness on Market Day Report on RFD this morning. Some garbage from the UN claiming CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL!!!! because some third world country couldn't raise enough food. Made me wonder. If this hokum had been the myth of that day back when cotton was wearing out the ground in the south, would it have gotten the blame for the loss of production?

Yes, we were headed for the impending ICE AGE in the 70's. Didn't they try to blame Freon on the problem, hole in ozone? Then Global Warming, Now climate change. When will some learn, climates have been changing since the beginning of time? Do you think Mother Nature need the freon in the atmosphere to keep the planet cooler?

Yes, enjoy it and take advantage of it. Looked like that around here up until a couple of weeks ago. Got a half inch of ice on everything this morning. Walking to the barn was an adventure in itself! (smile)

What about all the satellites and rockets that poked all the holes in the ozone layer on their way to outer space???

you ever notice when eggs were bad for you a lot of farmers lost. now we have big corporations in egg prod and now they are good. freon bad and people who owned patent for r134 are rich. Pork bad now we have factory farms and now they are good.
Hmmm I think I see a pattern here.

Last two years weren't enough for you? You must have been pretty close to how we were here. Two winters back I think I started every morning by shoveling the walks and drive so the clients could get in. Not complaining here.

That pushed the out. When asteroids shot in to the atmosphere,it got pushed back in.

As good as any other mythical theory wasn't it? lol

I enjoy your picture WITHOUT the snow. We've got snow and ice here. Will get the foam insulation man out to look at house.

Yeah, all we heard back then was "Global cooling" We were all gonna die because of massive crop failures. According to that ignorant bunch, we should have already been under 30 feet of ice. But they were wrong. And it's the same fricking bunch pushing this climate change crap.

Remember Acid rain? That was another sky was falling hoax.

I can't believe you are really upset due to lack of snow LOL ! Given what winter was like last year in these parts, the mild one we've had so far has been a very nice break from what it could be. Working outside has been very nice for the most part, sure we had a really cold day last week, north wind howling all day, and some days not as nice, but last year, we were 90-100 days below freezing, with weekly snow storms of various accumulations. Maybe the annoying insects will be more prevalent this season, but maybe not, as we have had mild temperatures, but have had the bottom drop out, sometimes that has value given the temperature extremes. Ponds are at least froze over, we can play hockey, ice fish, ground froze, towing logs is easy. Climate change, really hard to say what is what. This winter is very much like '11-'12, we had no snow, it was mild, but '13-'14 was more like a real winter, last season was a tough one and going back to the winter of '10-'11 that was as bad or worse than last year, close call on that, but a lot of old barns fell that year and I worked out in it every day, so in recent years we've had real winters, and 2 mild ones. Not sure how that equates to the climate change thing, but overall its still you get what you get when you get it, mild or harsh, either is certain, you just never know which one it will be.

We used to have an old guy that lived in the neighborhood that said our weather has been screwed up ever since they built that airport in Lansing.....

Back in the day, when every radio station had to have an hour of public service programing, most had one hour local talk shows. WITL in Lansing had one from 2-3 in the afternoon. There was a guy named John, had a foreign accent, used to call in as often as he could get through. They had a policy of giving anybody three minutes. He'd just drone on about the danger of fluoride in the water. This guy could tie anything to fluoride. Back then, double bottom fuel tankers were legal and there had been a rash of accidents involving them. He called in one time and even managed to link those to fluoride.

Come get some of this, central Md.30" plus.Had to dig my Kubota out with my Cat.

In my neck of the woods in NWIA farmers who bought snow blowers haven't had much of a chance to use them for many years. The heavier snows we used to get just haven't been happening. I told my 37 year old son he has never seen a good blizzard. He went on to tell me yahbut, back a few years we were snowed in for a day and we had some three foot drifts. I reminded him of being snowed in for two days or more at a time every other day for six weeks and six foot drifts. In 75 we were snowed in for a week in the middle of January and after that every little 2 or3" snow would drift us back shut for a couple more days.

HA HA HA, I see a lot of folks on here post pics and it is flat as a pancake, always wondered what it was like to farm on flat land!

Be patient, winter ain't over by a long shot yet, you must know that. I used to drive Interstate 70 from Indy to KC area around Christmas time and often there was ice on the road around Terre Haute. Have you had your dose of that yet this year? I'll take a lot of snow over any ice anytime.....

Perhaps I should check to see if tractor will start. Been sitting since Thanksgiving. Before winter local news predicted we would have little snow, guess they got it right. They also predicted ice in February, hope they got that wrong.

Ray Charles could build a load of hay out there, we have only a few place flat enough
to dare to change a tire..

I like Red Green's idea of Possum Day on September 2. If the possum sees his shadow,it means six more weeks of summer.

Yah but that was because of the Atomic Bomb testing, but we stopped and needed something else to blame the weather on. LOL

Just this past hunting season some city folks had a flat on there truck so they drove it down to the buildings which is hilly on that farm, where they were on top of the hill would have been fine to change a tire, but NO, they said they were going to limp it down to the buildings. How do you limp it with a flat tire I asked? LOL They parked the truck on the hilliest part of the drive way and then there jack wouldn't fit under the truck so they asked for a jack that would fit, I had a 2 ton floor jack that I got for them and handed to them, they started jacking it up and I backed up to watch the festivities! To my amazement the truck did not roll off the jack, he unbolted the tire and took it off and I said get the spare on it, the other guy said, QUICK! It was 12 degrees that night, city folk are so fun! LOL

You can have some of mine if you want it. Just reading today Mt Mitchell which is about an hour away got 66 inches of snow out of that blizzard. I'm sure they'll share also.
