This is an original document dated Nov 29, 1847 whereby John A. King and his wife Mary who lived in Jamaica, Queens agreed to rent out 123 acres in Schoharie County, NY to a man named Jesse M. Cornell. It was about this time that many of these poor renting farmers rose up against the very rich and prominent men who owned gigantic tracts of land here in upstate New York.
These were called the "Anti-Rent Wars" and eventually the renters banded together and bought the land. They bought 15,940 acres from John King for a whopping sum (at the time) of $25,000.
John A. King became governor of NY State in 1857-58.
About half of the legal documents I uncovered have a drop of blood covered with a small square of paper along side the signature.
They can be seen on this document. Prior to this, I thought the blood was applied only to documents where the person could not write and had to make his "X".

lee little- "Why the blood?".

So they could verify the signer of the document through DNA analysis. LOL!

I actually thought about that.

I wonder whether or not the DNA of the blood on the document could be used to prove ancestry.
Seems not beyond the realm of possibility.
