Chain saw question

I am thinking about getting a 24/25 inch bar for my saw, prolly just go to my stihl dealer, today I saw the trees service guys with the same saws as mine with a Oregon power match bar on one of them. I had an Oregon bar years ago but don't remember how it was, what's your opinion, they any good, or better off with a stihl?

I know with my big bad Mc Culloch 650 saws they run around 4hp. I have no trouble with a 24 inch bar with full chisel chain. It will run a 28 but it bogs down with that big of a bar. Most of the time I run a 20 inch. If you have the hp then go for it.

I've used Oregon bars on both of my Jonsereds, the old 910-e has a 28 inch that has been on it since 1981 and the newer CS 2171 has a 32 inch(which is too long, makes it nose heavy but still cuts fine.) I use chipper chains on both. Never tried other brands.

ive run oregon bars for years on my saws, we heat 2 houses with wood and cut wood year around they do just fine, never had a problem with those

Oregon is like most of the other companies that make stuff today the quality is not what it was years ago. I have an Oregon bar on a Husky and is a good bar but is 10 years old. This last summer I replaced the mandrels on two of my garden tractors and could get a full set and had to take one made by Oregon. The Oregon was flimsy compared to the OEM replacement. Time will tell if it will hold up and it was 3/4 the price of the OEM.

Quite frankly, I buy whatever the dealer has at the time. I've used Carlton, Forrester, Oregon, Stihl, and others. Can't say as I've noticed much difference in any of them. To be honest about it, can't say as I ever paid any particular attention to comparing them, so there may be differences, but if there is, it isn't enough to be noticed unless you are really paying attention.

I bought a Oregon bar/chain set last year, I think the chain was US, the bar china. The bar seems a little soft, because it was not a direct replacement I had to file the center slot a little wider, was easy. Went on a 40 year old 621 Jonsered, seems to work well, the rakers were different than I have ever seen before.

do you have that size on it now, if not you will probably not be happy with any bar it take a good size saw to handle that bar. nothing wrong with oregon stuff you just have to know which class of bar you want and pay for it. most new saw have then on or are from them labeled different is all.

Oregon makes good bars, better bars and a few even better than that bars. Off the top of my head I can't recall which is which, but comparisons of price usually will help you figure it out.

That being said I've had good luck with a variety of bars, Oregons consumer line is not my first choice at all. If you're going to spend a couple or 3 bucks an inch you'll be getting a completely different bar than the Lowes or TSC stuff.

Stihl makes a good bar. There are better but they cost more. Stihl makes about the best chain on the market right now.

No, it's a 20" on a stihl ms 460 it will handle a much bigger bar, it 76ccs , I think the tree service guys had a 28" or 32" on there saw.

That's all iv ever used is stihl chain, so I don't know
how others are, I decided not to get the bigger bar
for now.

I have 2 JREDS.I've used several different kinds of bars and had no complaints on any of them but I won't touch any chains but stihl.

"Handle" is a subjective term. That's a 4.7ci saw. I have saws over 100ci that can or cannot "handle" a 30" plus bar. Depends on the chain and the wood and what you are doing with it.
