Getting tired of the bags of socks sold at the big box stores that have holes in the heels prematurely.

Nothing special just black normal height (8" ???) no need for extra heavy for warmth----just average socks.

Thought you guys might know of a particular brand or online source for something that is comfortable and durable.

Great place for advice here. I learned to buy used boots online here, also picked up a Speed Queen washer and dryer.

Keep on Tractoring----spring is right around the corner.

I used to buy the Red Wing diabetic socks but as they shrunk they got tight on my ankles . Now I buy these medical socks from K-Mart that don't squeeze the ankle at all. I think the word Medic is on the socks. Tight socks kill me.

Google "The Worlds Softest Sock" I bought 6 pair about 10 years ago and am still wearing them every day. I got these at the Tanger outlet store on I80 between Des Moines AND Iowa City Iowa.

I wear a standard 8 inch black Under Armour sock. I get them on line for usually 19.95 for a six pack. I started wearing them close to 10 years ago. I wear them with everything including my Sunday Suit, tennis shoes, work boots, insulated shoes, what have you. They are comfortable and wear good and never slide down. You get a hole in one you just match the good one up with another. I keep a couple six packs on hand for when I start running out between washings. I threw the old box store work socks out years ago, there is no comparison.

Bought some diabetic socks the other day at 8 bucks a pair. Waist of money. I like a loose thin sock.
I am going to try the K Mart socks you talk about. I hate a sock that is tight on my leg.
Went to the Doc this week about my feet freezing and hurting. I have developed neuropathy and he is trying a medication for 3 weeks on me.

Used to buy work socks made by Fox (or Foxx) at the local co-op. Had them over ten years of daily wear and still have over half of the pairs left. I bought a few pairs and liked them so I went back and bought ten more pairs. Don't know if they still make them or not. They are white though, not black. They weren't cheap, but they were well worth the price. Might be worth checking into. Buy a pair if they are still available and see if they are still as good a they used to be.

I am diabetic and buy Dr Scholl's diabetic socks and they fell good and wear good. I get more life out of sock if I wear lace up boots over the slip on wellington boots. I buy mine at K-Mart. Wal-Mart and at the drug store.

I have the same problem with my feet. Burning sensation. Balls of feet feel like they are swollen . Havent been to DR.yet but I think that I will make an appointment.

I've become a huge fan of wool socks.

Charhartt makes decent ones.

They might sound like they'd be too warm, but they're not - I'll even wear them through spring into summer.

They're a lot thicker so the extra padding is nice on the feet. Walk around the house without shoes on and they're almost like slippers by themselves. But
they're not so thick that you'd have to change shoe sizes.

They dry out quickly if they get wet.

You'd have a hard time talking me out of them.

I had to switch over to knee hi socks a few weeks ago cause I banged the crap out of my ankle. The regular socks were digging into my scar. I am forever on that blasted warafin stuff so I bruise easily and I also have a bad scar on that leg from a bad burn. Real mess. Rub NEVIA cocoa butter hand cream on it before I put my socks on. Now I think sportster is close and the ones I found at the local Flea market are these. Physician's choice. So far they have helped the bruised area go from a purple looking ugly to just a discolored looking area. Go all of the way up and over the calf and are very comfy. Don't know how they will wear but they were not really expensive. Wearing them for several washes and have been fine. Keep your toe nails trimmed! You can get them on Fleabay for good prices and come in like six colors. Now a tip I have put on here several times for cold weather foot trouble. If my feet get cold I start to shiver and it just will not stop. Thank you warafin! First thing in the morning hose your feet down with ARRID XX dry. I kid you not. Do the top and bottom with enough so you can almost skate across the floor. Keeps your feet from sweeting and tricks your brain. Your feet are cold but not clammy and damp cold. BIG difference! Give these tips a try.

Since I wear mostly boots now, white socks are my daily choice. Wife buys them at Costco. I like them, they seem to hold up (elastic-wise) better than the ones she used to get at the department stores.

For many years, my wife has always gotten me a bale of Red Wing socks for Christmas. They were very comfortable, and seemed to last forever. I'm sorry to say that the quality has taken a nose dive the last two years. Some of the new ones (just now a month old) are tearing a hole at the heel as I pull them on, like the fabric is old and rotten. These were socks that she ordered from a local Red Wing dealer, because they didn't have a size large enough for me in stock. Maybe they had lain for years in a warehouse somewhere - the only excuse I can think of. I'm a firm believer in the USA made Red Wing boots, but my newest pair is about ten years old. I hope the quality of their boots has not taken the same course as their socks.

The best work socks I ever had were the green wool ones issued to me in Army basic training. Lasted for
years. They (or something better) may be available at army surplus stores; I haven't checked in years.

Both Costco and Sam's Club have good white socks that wear much better than sold in other stores.

I wear size 16 shoes so my sock selections are very limited. I have been buying Gold Toe socks for the last several years and am very happy with them.

I've become a fan of nylon socks. I don't need anything to keep my feet warm, just be a barrier between my feet and the inside of my docksiders or boots. They do the job quite well, and last for years. Wool makes my feet sweat, cotton is to heavy sometimes as well.

I have had amazing luck with Timberland Pro Series socks. I wear socks out like its my job, because it is. I hike 3-5 miles a day for a living and I can attest that they stand up. I've
had 3 pairs and I wear them every week and they have yet to wear out at all. I think something like $6 a pair. I got a three pack for $18. They are available from amazon.

I get mine at Costco. White sock with gray heel and toe, don't know how long they last because I haven't been able to wear any of them out yet. Not too expensive, either.

Wigwam socks they make em in white and
black both fit good and wear for a
long time. I get a six pack one about
every 1.5 years. They hold up pretty
well in a work boot and the elastic
will outlast the rest of it.

I buy BassPro lifetime socks. They will replace the socks. Some places don't even ask for a receipt. So every Fall when heading for Branson take my old socks for replacement.

I buy diabetic socks at Farm and Fleet. The right foot feels okay but the stiching bothers my left foot. Tried turning the left sock inside out and it helps but does not cure the problem. Still searching for something that flexes and is stiched for both feet.

+1 to that idea. I used to go through boot socks like candy. For about 10-12 yrs, I've been wearing a pair of black or brown nylon dress socks on top of my boot socks, as the top layer (I usually wear 2-3 pairs of socks at once, the extra padding helps my flat feet). The nylon socks wear like iron, can take the boot chafing a lot longer than any poly/cotton socks, even though they're so thin that you can almost see through them.

Fox River brand socks at Farm and Fleet
Have to wear steel toe safety shoes and l
Am diabetic . They wear very well and comfy
Also if you suffer from neuropathy , stinging
Burning nerve pain the try Sundown brand
Co Q 10 gummies it helps me alot

For several years I've been wearing Red Wing "Merino Hiker" socks. They're the most comfortable socks I've ever found. They're expensive, about 14 bucks a pair, but they last a long time. Only available in tan and grey.

(quoted from post at 14:28:24 01/22/16) The best work socks I ever had were the green wool ones issued to me in Army basic training. Lasted for

I had the same experience. So I went to a local surplus place near Ft Drum and bought some of the green issue socks. Must be the Army uses different socks than what we got at Parris Island 'cuz they were garbage. Of course, you have to expect things to change over 35 years...

I'm having good luck right now with Dickies brand
work socks and country tough from Orschlen's. Length
is consistent and they are wearing better than other
brands I've had the last couple years.

Bought a pack of Hanes socks a while back and I'd be
surprised if there were three of the same length in
there. A couple didn't have another that matched its
length.

I guess Snap-On has socks too, but the price scared
me so badly I forgot how much they were per pair.
The guy wearing them said he had a pair for each day
of the week and they were several years old.

Now if Froot of the Lume would go back to their old
underwear pattern and lose the half-as-thick-as-it-
used-to-be material.......
