Rental company caused a mess

The neighbor had a rental company pick up a skid steer. It must have been a new driver. The truck drove off the road and broke down the side of the road, including the blacktop road edge in a couple places, on a new road I just paid a lot of money to have put in. I wonder how hard it will be for first to prove they did it, and then do anything about it. My daughter saw the truck there. Any thoughts? Stan

You need to get some gravel along the edge or it will keep happening. When I had my truck and had a home delivery, if the pavement wasn't backed up I would trip the gate and put a little there to keep from breaking the edge off.

The road has 7 inches of base, and 4 inches of hot mix. A soil engineere was on the job all the time checking compaction Nothing wrong with the road. He drove over the soft dirt edge off the pavement into a drain ditch, which just had 5 inches of rain a week ago. If he stayed on the road nothing would have happened. Stan

37Chief- Are you feeling Okay? Is anything going on that you might want to talk about?

Your posts are usually informative and full of answers, Lately, they seem to be rants and complaints about small trivial things like the road or a fence, etc.

You doing okay?

If it's a public road, report the incident to the county road commission or whoever it is that's responsible for the road. They'll have to fix it regardless; let them decide whether to go after the rental company.

If it's a privately maintained road, you can try reporting the incident to the rental company. If they refuse to pay for repairs, it's up to you and your neighbors to decide whether or not to go after them in court.

Just trying to get a little info here is all. Maybe someone has gone through this. Here is the deal. The city made me put in these what are called brow ditches. Specialy designed to catch run off. They have a special liner to keep silt out of the water running off my land. I can't have any brown water leaving my land. Now what the truck and trailer did, most of the special liner is pushed into ground exposing dirt for about 100 ft. These ditches are inspected by the city. If there is a problem I am responsible for maintaining them for the rest of my life (really) not kidding here. Some one is facing some big bucks to bring the ditch in question back up to city standards. I just don't want it to be me. You should see the two 60ft X 12 X 5 ft deep catch basins with special material I had to put in, that are also inspected by the city. Sorry if you think I am complaining. Stan
